waqasusman: I believe that Dell's different departments:"Home", "Corporate", "Small Business", and "Peripherals" are mostly seperate entities. It is possible that they will only consider purchases made out of the "peripheral" section because they do not have agreements with the others. IMO this is total bull$hit, but money-grubbing corporations will be money-grubbing corporations...

theycallmeaububba:He was speaking not in respect to the rebate, but to the deal. He can't find it on Dell's website.

I know, I don't mean that. I am just frustrated that they changed the restrictions that quickly. I am least going to try. Think it will help if I call dell or seagate?

It may help. Just explain that you purchased the drive from Dell with the intentions (and impression) that you could use the rebate.

I ordered the drive 24 Apr fromDell. The rebate form didn't have any vendor restrictions.

Afterwards I got an e-mail saying the ship date had slipped to 4 May. This concerned me because the rebate said you had to purchase the drive by 2 May.

I called Dell this morning to see if they would bill me today, so my receipt would show 2 May on it. Explaining how I had a Seagate rebate for $25 and how I needed to purchase it by the 2nd of May.

She was quite nice, she offered to credit me the $25. I of course immediately agreed. It'll be interesting to see if my invoice has the $25 reduction.

If it does, well, this is my first experience with Dell; and so far a good one. (Except for the fact that they were back-ordered in the first place, but oh well, it happens.)

Guess what. Got my drive from Dell today. It's fvcking OEM. I ordered this thing on the 24th, waited all this time, and it's a Goddamn OEM. I'm more than a little pissed about this.

I ordered a 60 gig seagate from them which said retail and they sent me oem. Called Dell and told them I could buy the oem version at a computer show for 65. They said they would adjust the price to 65 and credit my CC.

I also called Seagate to verify warrantee length and they said it is a 3 year oem drive.

The rebate form for the $25 rebate states specifically if must be a bare drive with the Seagate part number Manufacturer Part# ST380021A. A retail drive wouldn't work. Different part #.

Same here, I called them about it and they offered to take it right back but I didn't see anything on the original receipt saying it had to be a retail drive?

riznick, you're right about the drive being price $85/$89 regularly at Fry's however, it's a *BARE DRIVE* version, not the retail version. I'm pretty sure that this rebate in question will require a retail box UPC as 'proof of purchase' If I'm wrong, then let's all jump like Lemmings on this deal, otherwise, Fry's price on the retail drive is ridiculously high (as compared to these online prices being listed)

Peace

Read my post just above. This rebate requires the drive to be a bare drive, not a retail drive.
The Fry's drive was selling for 89 after the 25 rebate, meaning they were selling for 114 before rebate. Fry's is selling this drive now for 109 without a rebate. It was in yesterdays ad in the Bayarea.

Here's a link to the rebate. $25 Seagate rebate

I ordered this drive from Dell when the hot deal first appeared over at another site.
Dell delayed the shipment til the 6th of May.

I'm wondering if I'm screwed on the rebate, which states purchase must be made before May 2nd.
My packing slip shows May 6th.

I must be having a major brain fart today, cuz I cant get this disk partitioned.
It only shows it as 10gb on fdisk.

SirFshAlot:
Depending on the chipset, Windows (at least 98SE won't recognize above 64 GB). An 80 GB drive is actually around 74-75 GB of storage. There's a formula for this I just don't remember. Anyway, your system is "seeing" the difference between 64 GB and your drive. That's where your 10GB is coming from. I know because I had the same problem. What you need to do is format your drive with the updated version of FDisk from Microsoft. Here's the link New FDisk

You need to copy the newer FDisk files onto your start up disk. I am assuming you're running Win 98.
Format the drive, the numbers will still look strange, but Windows will see it as the proper storage after you install Windows.

Try submitting the e-mail you got from Dell showing the order date. Maybe they'll let that slide in.

I was worried about the same problem, so I called Dell on 2 May to see if they would bill me before shipment. Instead they offered to knock $25 off the order. I still haven't received the drive yet, so I don't know if they really did or not.

SirFshAlot:
I also ordered on the 27th of April and my HD was delayed and shipped on the 6th. I will receive it Monday at work (UPS tracking). Today I received the receipt that you need to mail in with the rebate in today's mail, (don't use the packing slip for the rebate). The "invoice" reflects the order date of the 27th, so it's a go for the $25 rebate. If you've never ordered from Dell, they send an invoice in the mail after they've shipped your product.

Dell is great to buy from, I have to far ordered twice and have to say very good service and fast delivery too. I would order again in the near future and they are in my best vendor to buy from list.
