This is very dead. My GF works for IBM and they are in the process of contacting those who have ordered this to let them know that there has been "a misunderstanding". The part is for the caddy ONLY. No drive will be shipped with this order.

Sorry, but too good to be true.

The parts isn't for a caddy. do a google search on that part number and you'll see that it is FOR the drive. Search on IBM too and it will confirm this.

Maybe you missed the "misunderstanding" part?

Hey whatever I am sure that neither IBM parts nor their web ordering division know what is going on.

Listen and believe what you will. Only trying to help. But then again, maybe IBM will be generous. Who knows maybe they will let some get by or still fill it if you whine enough. Either way good luck.

Like I said, I have my drive using that part number to order @ the $37 price so I can in fact confirm its a drive and not just a tray.

Yes I do understand that, but IBM is now at least internally denying that this was valid. What I am guessing is that those who got them, got lucky. Those orders not yet processed....

Like I say I am not arguing anything here. Just telling you what I am hearing from inside IBM right now.

If you got one good job. If you haven't yet, good luck.

I've tried both part #'s about a dozen times each and while it takes a long time it eventually kicks to the 'We're sorry but..." page. I'm guessing it's a mistake. Either a part number or pricing error. Either way, it looks like mellowfellow is right.

If hot deals didn't disappear fast they wouldn't be hot deals now would they?

I JUST GOT ALL FOUR DRIVES I ORDERED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111ONEoneONE11

Did not expect this come through. Big shout out to kamakazii at that 'other' forum!

Came by DHL, and early, since I ordered late Friday evening by the (one dollar or so cheaper!) 2-3 business days delivery option. I am stunned, but displaying my best and biggest shiat-eating grin as I type this.

I only opened one, but it is the Model HTS548080M9AT00 5400 rpm 80gb Hitachi. An orange sticker on it says, "Servicable Used Part" and its build date is Dec. '05.

Yeeeeeee-haw!!

<------- Does his happy happy happy dance!

Well, usually the best strategy is to not get greedy and only order one, so as to not call attention to your order, but I really thought these would never come through anyway, so . . .

I just ordered one but it didn't list the company name for me (getting shipped to a business) now I'm clamoring to get the ship to modified.

So what the heck is a "Servicable Used Part" ?

I can't imagine that it would be a refurb if it has a Dec 05 build date.

Maybe it's a pull from an existing system? e.g.:customer wanted a different drive in a laptop order, IBM replaces and can't legally sell the pull as new.

Hey! I ordered this drive and they shipped me a tray full of Cheerios! Don't order this - IBM is a fly-by-night scam operation!

(j/k - but see the FW thread to see a high level of paranoia and deception by deal hunting's finest)

According to an "IBM insider" over on that "other forum", these are ALL new drives but have that sticker for warranty (90 days) purposes, and that IBM did not have ANY refurb versions of the Hitachi 80gb drive in stock at the time of the, ummmm, "sale".

The one I opened certainly looks virginal. I think I'll call her Alice.

Really, I'm shocked this went through for me. Got four.

Here is a quote of a quote

"Just got off the phone with my friend at IBM, All ordered placed after 5 pm Central time where not filled. They would have been filled Monday moring but they where alerted Friday night due to stock shortage of all the ordered shipped before 5pm. Right now they have about 200 orders on hold to find out what they are going to do. The ones that did ship should be new because they had no used stock on 80 gb hard disk. They are marked refurbed because of policy on the way the parts are ordered as replacment parts for a warranty shipment. Yes the web ordered due take a little while to process if you did not get a confirmation number with a 5- somthing then your order is held up."

I'm not giving credit other than mentioning it's a quote of a quote, if you have any problem with that bite your lip and skip the reply button because I really don't care. Thanks
