:Q that's not sounding good.........can anyone confirm?

You can read through the threads at FW and SD. The people posting pics of the received hdds say they did phone orders.

But despite tons of people calling IBM and getting told that all orders are getting canceled, I haven't seen anyone reporting any actual cancelations and my order hasn't been canceled. So there's still some hope for online orders.

There's always hope....

Just curious - how do you check your order status without this "customer/company" number? All I have is the confirmation email #.........

Youd have to call them.

Which I would avoid doing. Most people who call get told various stories by the CSR in an attempt to get you to cancel.

Well a huge number of people who have called have posted in SD saying they canceled after being told by the CSR things like:
"Well we are canceling all orders now anyway, so you might as well cancel now" Not true, no cancelations done yet
"Well its trays only" not true, they fixed the price to $200 or $300 finally and everyone who has received orders have received hdds.

Its up to you about calling. I wouldn't, but many have, so its not like IBM doesn't know, so calling wont affect that. It might affect your particular order though.

Actually after reading FW and SD forums, it would appear that IBM changed their story. They no longer instruct their CSRs to tell it's just a tray or that all orders are going to be cancelled. Instead, the word is that IBM will try to fulfill as many orders as they can until they are out of stock and cancel the rest. Take this with a grain of salt though as nobody really knows for sure.

Hey Perknose, when did you order yours? I was one of the first to order mine, but no sight of its arrival
I ordered them by phone sometime Friday night. Phone orders seem to be the ones that got through. I was far from the first to order (over at that obese billfold place), and I didn't really think I'd get any (got all four), but, BOOM, Monday afternoon, there was the DHL truck.

Amazing, really. If you read all the posts at all the deal forums, there are fourteen million different scenarios and "official" and "insider" responses, but it does seem to me that some who had on-line orders and called in reported that this moved their orders forward towards completion.

Since IBM long since knows all about this, it can't really hurt for you to try calling, methinks, and could possibly help.

Good luck!

I ordered two drives on Monday night. I just called the parts department and the CSR, before even taking my confirmation number asked me if this was regarding the 80GB hard drive. I said yes and he told me the following:

"This was a mistake, the price was incorrect on the website and it has been changed. HOWEVER, we are going to honor ALL orders placed before the price was changed. The only problem is that we had 192 hard drives in stock and recieved orders for well over a thousand units. So, it may be a while before you get yours, but you will get it at the price that you ordered it at. They are in production right now, and you should get an email about this mistake very soon."

Holy crap! IBM rocks.

Oh man, if IBM honors this, they are going to have some very happy customers.

If you have received your drive(s) please report in this thread. We want to know!

Yeah but I'm pretty sure they are still handling these kind of orders for warranty parts. IBM probably will continue to handle support for stuff that was purchased under their name, at least for a while.

The 13N6805 (80GB Hitachi) that I ordered for #34.50 ($51.72 with tax and shipping) is now listed for $522.00. They really really messed up.

Now, how long before we get our drivs?

there is a deeper registration process that you can do to get a customer number. it takes about 2 days. i did it. i am thinking about calling them. has anyone else done this? I figured i will just call and ask for the status of the order.

i've gone the route of the "deeper registration" but still no confirmation. I have the order confirmation with order number and price, but unable to confirm through their website. I'll probably give it through today, then call csr tomorrow. No hits on the cc either.

I was told last night by my GF who works @ IBM, that all orders are going to be canceled She was told this be her friend in the web ordering division. Apperantly IBM is also prepared with their legal team in case of lawsuits as well.

This sucks but I guess it is kind of expected as IBM has given up the consumer market any way. Not like they really care about our good or ill will.

Lots of people with "friends of freinds" at IBM have said that. As well lots have said that they are all going to get shipped. Lots have said that we should have gotten a status update yesterday in the email. And several have said everyone will get 1 hdd per order. (many posts in the SD thread about all this stuff)

So far none of that has happened.

Its all basically glorified rumor.

Until I actually receive a cancelation email, I'm not going to belive the cancel thing. Until I see reports of online orders getting shipped I'm not going to belive the everybody's getting the orders thing.

i guess we kind'a have to expect this. the days of employee - employeer loyalty is out the window, and we've been seeing that same development move into consumer markets. Yes IBM made a mistake and if they cancel the orders they'll save money. But they'll also loose market loyalty; especially with electronics, once i find good companies, i stay with them even if their pricing isn't the best. Perhaps IBM will do the right thing. If not, then more encouragement to believe that they won't support their products or warrenties in the future.

Regardless of how they try to spin it, consumers drive the industry, and you will only be able to throw the consumers into the dirt so many times, before they leave.

(okay, soap box goes back into closet, but i'll still wait for a few more days to see just how ibm wants to react to this)

Nor am I asking you to believe anything just adding information that I recieved. I trust my GF and I know her friend in the web ordering area. So I believe that this is the weay IBM is going. Can I say with 100% confidence that they will not change direction yet again? No. I do not believe IBM has fully had a handle on this from day one. I do believe that if they think that it will make more sense to cancel, then they will cancel. I also believe that consumer feelings are not something they care about. Now corp. consumer would be a different matter. I would bet anything if this many drives had been bought at this price by a global corp. then IBM would honor it. When it comes down to you and I as personal consumers though, what do they have to lose? They don't do Laptops, and the don't do desktops, so what's the harm to them if they piss off a bunch of Joe nobodies?
