yup this is just the player guys, no way to transfer data until you buy a CF card and a reader. I've 2 128mb CF's lying around that i have to sell, i'll let them go for $42 shipped each.

buy.com bundled this mp3 player with their jumpshot cable and 128 CF card a couple weeks ago (for $50 + shipping). i got the CF card and the cable and both of them are working out great. the mp3 player is hecka cheap though. i do NOT recommend it at all. it's a cheap toy that you might find as a prize from chuck e cheese. im serious ... the quality on the plastic of the player rivals something of crackerjack toy proportions. it's cheap lightweight plastic and by no means sturdy. and it sucks up batteries too so i heard from my housemate. no lcd. the picture makes it look a lot better than what it is. just a warning.

and after all that ... if you guys are still interested i'll sell you mine for less. =) i really dont know what to do with it.

ok, let me tell you the truth about this player.

i got mine a couple of years ago in one of those super hot Internet deals in the deal heyday

mine is labeled the I-JAM.

the problem with this product is that it is missing a couple of key features that one would assume would be present on to any MP3 player:

first, this thing has no pause button. You see the long oval vertical but then at the top middle of the player? that button toggles between play and stop. there is no pause. now this wouldn't be so bad if not for the second thing, which is that there is no resume function. If you stop play, when you start again, it will begin playing from the first song in the list. Since the player has no display, finding the song where you left off is pretty hard. I can't remember exactly, but I think that it has no fast forward or rewind either, only a track skip forward or backwards. I think it only plays in alphabetical order of the file name, also.

Also there is no analog volume control. it as plus or minus buttons which raise or lower the volume but it doesn't get that soft nor that loud.

I also had problems with this player some compact flash cards. It worked fine with the 8MB card that was included, but not with my 48M SanDisk Card. when I called tech support, they said that there were problems with certain brands of cards, but they didn't know which ones or have any kind of fix for it.

Anyhow, I ended up playing a few songs off of it and never used it again.

so, buyer beware.

Ok, I installed the software, rebooted my computer, and then plugged in the USB jumper cable.

Nothing happened...my pc (running Win98) didn't detect anything and didn't install any driver. I have no way to transfer files to the card.

I have had no problems using other USB devices...

EDIT...tried it on my laptop running W2k...same problem. ???

Just ordered one, will post back here when I receive it.

All of these memory card mp3 players are going to get dirt cheap in the next couple of years. Most are way overpriced now.

If anyone has one of these for $12.50 shipped they would like to sell (payment via Paypal) LMK. While I agree that it is a cheap MP3 player it works great when I run. My 4 and 6 yr old also like it....

roamerr on heat and ebay.

Just posting here since this is somewhat on topic.

I do wonder if the bit-rate causes issues. I have some songs that do the skipping thing. I think the player is best for 128 bit rate (or whatever you call it).

I've had problems installing the software. My computer won't detect the jumpshot device...

How are you supposed to transfer files onto the card? Is it supposed to show up as a device like a cd-rom or zip drive would?

I have a Memorex CF reader via USB (can't find drivers for 2K) that pulls up in Explorer just like any other drive would in Windows 98. Just drag 'n drop or cut 'n paste. Works well for me.

Both W2k and '98 autodetect the reader and prompt for drivers.

I received this player from the Buy.com deal. It's in line with my expectations, given the price. It works and sounds good, but I can't figure out how it determines the play order. I've changed the filenames to things like "01.mp3", "02.mp3", etc., but it plays them slightly out of order still.

Does anyone have any insight?

Thanks,
-J

I am trying to load files onto the cf using the jumpshot cable that was supplied (I also bought this as a package from Buy.com).

But when I plug in the USB jumpshot cable, nothing gets detected on my computer. I've tried this both on desktop (W98) and laptop (W2k).

Anyone else have this problem??

I have a Jumpshot too. It was really fruity at first, but eventually settled down. Works fine under Win2k now. The cable alone does nothing; you need to stuff a USB-enabled card in it before anything happens. I leave it plugged in all the time, and simply stick the card in when I need to move data.

Note that the card must be labeled "USB" - if you use a non-USB card, nothing happens.
