So in my computer room, I have an X2 3800@2550, a winnie 3000@2100, and a 820D@3.43 Room temp 71.4F. In my bedroom, I have an X2 4400@2550 and an X2 3800@2500, room temp 69.4F. (no heat turned on in the house, 39F outside). The computer room and the bedroom are on oppisite ends of the house. So my bedroom is getting a little chilly, so I may have to more the "heater" 820 into my bedroom ! You can feel the heat coming out of the side of the case, it really is like a little space heater, no joke ! and the Athlon cases, you can't hardly feel any heat coming out ! It wasn't as eveident until winter came on....

BTW, all 5 boxes mentioned have almost the same video card, no fans on them X300SE and 9600pro. The 820 has only a PCI video card, so NO heat from that, no heatsink on the GPU even. In the center of the house is my sons Athlon64 3200+@2300 with a 8500 radeon, it heats his room barely, but gets the heat from the computer room coming his way.

Those two temps are most likely within the margin of error for whatever you used to measure them.

That is, they are really identical for all practical purposes.

I have a digital thermometer, that I leave in the computer room. After my bedroom got cold, I moved the thermometer in there, waited 8 hours, then checked the temps. Its an Oregon Scientific, quite accurate, and you can feel the difference, thats why I moved it, to make sure it wasn't my imagination.

Maybe, maybe not. What does the Pentium D chip dissipate by itself? Something like 130W+, more considering it's overclocked with more voltage.

That's like an extra lightbulb on all of the time!

Really, it has a 120 MM fan exhausting the open case to keep temps in line, and if you put your hand by it, its like the air coming out of your dashboard with the heater on !

My X2 and 6800GT felt like a heater too. Warmed the temps in my room up at least 10 degrees F when running P95 compared to the bathroom or my mom's bedroom. The P-D must be worse .

I'll be sure not to get an 820D then.

(Heaters are not needed in Texas )

Though to be fair, my XP 1700+ @ 2400MHz puts out quite a bit of heat already

Hmmmm... I may build a Shuttle with an 820 or 830 to heat my bathroom when I take a shower.... since that's about all they're good for

Hey, it can be your bathroom heater/pr0n machine, definately makes cleanup easier

Save bills on a hot water heater, and instead water cool the system and use the water to shower with!

(yeah, we're definitely taking this a bit far, but still is fun)

Its too bad Intel's performance per watt didn't come into play with the PD, we'd have some killer chips worth the heat

12 actually. 4 gaming for my sons lan parties, one for work, one for sons school, 4 dedicated F@H, and 2 laptops (son and me) When the 170 comes, I will have 5 total dual-cores, all running F@H, same power as 6 single cores (the 820 counts as 2) The Dual Opteron is a gaming box, the vid cards in those gaming boxes all take too much juice to run 24/7.

Even though this is really all true, I like some of the suggestions !

Speaking of heaters, i was playing AoE3 on my X23800+ @ 2.4Ghz with a BFG 7800 GTOC and it kicked on the temperature controlled fan in my window, apperently two hours of playing heated the room up that much!

I think the 7800 GTOC had more to do with that than the CPU. Thats why I have slugs for video cards in all these boxes that run 24/7. Whne I fire up the 4 gaming computers for my sons lan parties, it gets over 80F in that same room with the window open when its freezing outside ! (9800pro, 6800 GT, X800pro, 9800XT)

BTW, it got down to 65.1F in my room last night, but the computer room stated at 67.6 ! up to 2.5F difference !

Before I moved my Whinie from under my desk, it would become over 25C during the winter with the window open everything stock! Nows its on top of my dresser, and room temps dont get above 20C and its not even the "real" winter yet.

Maybe he's the lucky guy to who ended up near the top of a pyramid scheme? Maybe I'm just unlucky but ever since moving to Oregon, I've been asked at least 3 to 4 times at the grocery store whether or not I want to join a 'start up company in supply chain management' or something. Aka pyramid scheme.
