Maybe you didn't pick up on the sarcasm... I thought the smileys would give it away . I know very well that there's more to it than just cranking up the FSB (although that's pretty much all I did on my Athlon 1600+ to gain an extra 175 MHz)

RamIt you are slightly confused ....im runing a 1:1 memory ratio, not a 3:4 or 4:5.
my scores are right on par for Corsair XMS @ cas222 1:1 ratio.
ive got a stick of Sammy comin tomorrow

<EDIT> the Sammy sucked @zz. :|

i let the system run prime95 all night last night - (166fsb 1.72v cas2226 2.6v)
it was still running after 12 hours so i shut it down

:frown:

I have a general question about this board?
I installed it and a P4-1.6a running at 2.1mhz.

I have my Antec 350W p/s fan being monitored
by the board. If I leave the PC off for a while and
reboot, it comes up with a hardware error, pointing
to the P/S fan. I runs at 1700-1800 when I power and
as it get warmer, the fan goes faster(smart Fan)

It worked fine when I had my Asus CUSL2-C in the same case
and Power supply. I just flashed to the latest bios

Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks
Gary

yes - the fan is spinning too slow and the alarm goes off.
unplug the monitor, or set it to ignore in the bios.

Thugs -> how do you plan on hacking the board to get the mem ratios over 132FSB? <edit> oh wait, nevermind, I see your other thread. duh! </edit>

And does anyone know of a way to hack the stupid smart fan thingy on the PSU so it runs at 100% all the time, instead of increasing with the temperature?

I originally posted this in your other thread, Thugsrook, by mistake, I meant to post it here......

Thugsrook and everyone,

ordered my stuff today! WOO-HOO!

I ordered the P4B533-E (I network with friends alot). That was the hardest decison for my new rig. I didn't like the on-board video idea (my opinion on that, which is NOT based on fact, is that the video robs the board of real estate which HAS to hinder SOMETHING) of the 845G, and Thugs has shown what can be done with the 845E. One other factor: mobos aren't really that expensive, I can always change it later. I didn't really want anything else.

I ordered the 1.6A (hope I get a good one!) and Corsair PC3200 cas 2 memory, I wanted the Samsung 2700, but the places I order from don't carry it (I can't order from newegg). I just hope this stuff will perform well, I'd like to acheive the same results that you folks have.

For anyone that cares, I also ordered a Plextor 40x/12x/40x, two WD 800JB's and a Promise Fasttrak 100 TX2, a Leadtek Ti4400, and a Pioneer DVD-106S. All this will go into an Antec plus 1080B case. Haven't ordered any cool-guy cooling stuff yet, I want to see what I can get out of this stock, then make it faster bit by bit.

Anyway, thanks alot to everyone, these forums have been a fantastic source of info, can't wait to post some results!

WangBUtter the easiest way to get your PS fan running 100% all teh time is to cut off the thermal probe that is in it. Just cut it off then connect the wires that were going to the probe. WHen you do that it will always run at 100%

Mikki sounds like a good selection of parts. i personally think the Corsair XMS is a better choice than the Samsung. gluck makin it to 166fsb

Jwyatt yes its the same CPU. its running faster on this board tho
i cant wait to see the 185fsb benchmarks :Q

Hey Thugs! Mighty fine overclock! How did you get above 1.7voltage? I only get 1.7 in the BIOS.

3DMark2001SE = failed
Q3A = 282.1
Sandra Mem = 2805 / 2720

i was also able to bootup and run windows @ 188fsb 3008mhz, but i didnt bother to run any tests.

Well I have mainly been lurking around here for a while and finally decided to post. I noticed at the begining of the thread you have a 1.6a costa rican chip with a pack date of 3/19/2002 with the Asus P4B533. Well would'nt you know thats the same as me. Mine is running right now at 2880mhz stable as can be. I can post at 188fsb and thats it, but my problem is my ram. Right now at 2880mhz my ram cas settings are as high as it goes 2.5,3,3,7. It's kingmax pc-2700 and its showing signs of fatigue. What ram are you running? I'm thinkin of either samsung pc-2700 or corsair pc-2700.

here's a direct comparison - P4b266-C vs. P4b533 @ 167fsb:

3DMark2001SE = 11805 >>> 12126
Quake3 Arena = 257.9 >>> 265.3

Sandra Memory = 2484/2374 >>> 2530/2454
Sandra CPU = 5014/3268 >>> 5014/3273
Sandra Media = 10565/12887 >>> 10570/12891

If you guys want the sh!t in memory, check out Mushkin's Hi Perf LEVEL 2 PC2100. This memory is only PC2100 but it b!tch slaps Corsair's XMS 3000 memory! This thing can do 190MHz FSB with the MOST aggresive timings. Pricey but definitely some of the BEST memory out there. Check out these comparisons.

Oh, and its a 512 stick.
