there is no reason for him feeling bad - not from our (AT's) side. HE obviously has the money and doesn't care.

I would RATHER feel bad because *IF* he spent money on this with the SOLELY intention to get a kicka$$ WORKING high-end system that alienware obviously screwed him or doesnt know what they're doing....so basically he wasted his money and the whole concept of a prebuilt/preconfigured system has turned into a joke

My advice to him: Hr should call alienware - for a mere ~7k the least thing i can expect is that THEY better know what they're selling me and that the components work/fit together. Why else would someone give them their money if not for exactly this ???

To Psychocow:

I didn't mean to direct that message at you as much as correcting the estimates on that website itself. Sorry if it sounded like I was trying to say something against you. I just quoted your post because it had all the numbers conveniently laid out.

But yes, I reiterate that the website is overestimating the numbers and as many others here have said, the 510 should be enough if nothing's wrong with it.

Wow did you see my full order from Alienware, with the guy that put it together (esteban martinez...great guy) and my order from compudirect. And actually my computer is above that extreme PC article in that I have 4 GB or RAM and not 2. One way or another this is an expensive computer, the parts are expensive, and so is Alienware, I except that but those parts listed on that site are $5300 at best prices (it does include the 2 7k500 drives I ordered from compudirect, but not the 4 GB RAM).

While some responses are hateful and the adage about don't say anything at all if you ain't got nothing to contribute (paraphrased) rings true. The only reason I posted those components is so I'd get a reliable answer from experts and they'd know what the power draw is

As for why Star Wars...that's an odd question.

Star Wars PC

I like Star Wars...umm...I am not alone here. And different people are into different things, why is my hobbies, preferences, or why I bought this computer so in question. Some people are very sad and miserable...hijacking threads with very sad posts. You don't make me look bad, you do that to yourself. And the way some treat people on this board I can't imagine that they are successful in their relationships or careers. I won't apologize for things that make me happy and I have no reason to impress anyone.

Lastly, to Psycho cow, Neuromancer, jose, pianopman, woot, flexy, etc. Thanks really. And I will talk to Alienware further about this especially with this specific knowledge. I wish I could link Alienware directly to this thread, but sadly some people post some very unprofessional, discouteous things...eh, you reap what you sew. I may cut and paste some of these responses and show that configurator site though. Definitely Neuromancer and PsychoCow put some very thoughtful intelligent and time consuming posts together. Thanks you. Truly. I appreciate it. If I could help you in any way, let me know. I'd gladly return the favor.

To some of the others...you need to give respect to get it life and success doesn't happened its earned. No one wants to be around negativity and if that has become the focus of your life, you need to seriously sit down and consider a new direction. I feel sad for some people here living with no joy whatsoever.

alienware is pretty if you can afford it. but your question is stupid. the whole point of buying prebuilt from a premium game shop is they test the configurations and know what they are doing.

I asked because they said it was enough when I bought it, the tech said maybe it wasn't and that may be part of the problem, then customer service stated it indeed was. I was looking for clarification from experts on a large investment. Further I pushed every configuration there was, they didn't list my videocards, X2 processor and only offered 2 gigs of RAM when I put this together I got supervisors to approve some things...so while in six months this may be common I doubt they are shipping these systems off by the thousands. Even if its warrantied I don't wan't to go through this again or lose data, etc. My work is very time consuming and has deadlines...so, I didn't feel it was a stupid question. I was doing research, arming myself with knowledge so I can readily discuss this point with Aleinware and know defniitvely what direction I should go. But I am done proving myself to people that don't care to help and love to criticize.

Although I do believe that a high quality 500-600W PSU is adequate, but it seems as though part of your computer's use is mission critical stuff, and you don't have time to deal with any comp problems. If that is your case, I'd go with the best PSU you can afford (850W), and that seems to be your case.

Personally, if I bought any prebuilt from any company, I'd expect 100% complete satisfaction and stability. This is what you are paying for.

PS: don't give up on AT. It may be hard to get used to, but if you hang around long enough, there is alot of good info here.
