There are sooo many different grades of meat you have to really compare apples to apples.

We had a food delivery service come out and give their pitch. "Celebrity Prime Foods" - you think Omaha is expensive - these guys are REALLY expensive.
Claimed their stuff was all USDA CHOICE or better.

Recently I bought some New York Loin USDA Choice at Sam's. Really yummy, looked and tasted aged - wasn't watery. I think it was ~$8.00 a pound but it was worth it.

Wizz0Bang. Where is the free-shipping advertised on their web page?

Let me know if you guys are charged the full price. How are the steaks on sale for? The coupon is good for a while.

Wizz0Bang. Where is the free-shipping advertised on their web page?

I can't seem to find it now... but I did some browsing around before I checked out, something in the meats area (looking at other products) had a "free shipping" limited time type ad referring to Omaha steaks or the intro package... it wasn't the fashion store (which also has some free shipping junk going on). If anyone else sees it, make note of where it pops up. I didn't think too much about it as it was already explained here. But since I did get free shipping (and so did many here) I'm not complaining

Can't wait to have the BBQ when this comes!

Thanks Probedude I think that cut would be more expensive than sirloin which is what this is..... so this may not be such a hot deal as I agree with the others who say shipping wont be free on this deal if its not advertised in a coupon or the site....
lucky7 at this point I think the answer is... its not.

Can't anybody check to see what was actually charged to their credit card?

Agreeing to pay $25 upon checkout seems like a risky move, even if you do get some e-mail an hour later that doesn't have the shipping included.

Omaha steaks are tres yummy, but $14.85 is a much better deal than $25

There is a hold on my CC for $26 ($25.XX) so it look like they ARE charging for shipping.

Guess I will send my e-mail to my CC and fight it, can't hurt.

Just curious....

Most meat companys that are knowledgable enough to age their meat, (read: not your local grocery store), will use one of two methods; either dry aging, or wet aging. Dry aging meat is left in a cool enviroment with no covering, and wet aging you leave the meat in the bag it comes in (subprimals -the larger "chunks" of meat, come vacuum sealed in bags if it's product meant to be portioned into steaks). Wet aging is a matter of leaving this bagged meat in a cool enviroment for up to 40 days. It rarely hurts the meat, and does wonders to the flavor, and the bite of the meat, as (any) aging allows the natural bateria to further break down the connective tissue thet runs through the muscle fibers. Dry aging takes less time, but (from what I have seen, I could be wrong) has a small chance of discoloration on the meat surface, as contact with air oxidises the meat, and makes the outside turn (bad) more quickly.

Aging makes a LOT better meat product (for steaks, not burgers). However, IMO (not thread crapping, just giving an alternative) paying 3x for Omaha Steaks than what you would at your local butcher, is just silly. Go make a friend out of your local, lonely, USDA inspected butcher, save some cash, and get just as good of steaks.

And don't buy supermarket meat!

Thanks for the info

But, how does dry aging work? I've had steaks sit in my fridge for too long, and it ended up smelling real bad

jonnyfin I think you along with many others are just assuming that you are getting this for 15, I hope you are right.
Yobbo, afraid of those cows that need counseling??
edit :iamme you have to freeze steaks if you want them to keep more than a few days before cooking,I really hope you knew that...

Dry aging takes less time than wet aging, but requires a more careful eye on the product.
Dry aging would be pretty much what you did by leaving a steak sit in your fridge -the difference here is that a whole muscle product can be aged, and then have the outer layer trimmed off to rid the meat of any off odor. You could have done the same thing with your stinky steaks, but with a 1" thick steak, taking 1/4" off the top, bottom and sides doesn't leave you with a whole heck of a lot, other then a few sliced up fingers. But taking 1/4" off of a 15 lb choice Top Butt Sirlion, leaves about 14.5 lbs left to cut.

Believe me when I say there is a very thin line between well-aged, and rank with stink. I suppose this is true with a lot of things in life

great deal, thanx.

The question is not whether or not you'll get an e-mail that says 0.00 for shipping. The question is whether or not your credit card will be charged for the shipping.

Do my eyes deceive me or does that say "4" cheesecake"???? I cannot imagine why they would give you such a small cheesecake.

Your eye do not devieve you, BUT that cheesecake is so incredibly dense and rich you will not be laughed at by guests if you serve them a 1" slice. We had 4 people over and it was perfect. The cake is really a hook, so its more of a sample size cake, but my god, its incredible. I'm a huge sweets fan, don't really like most cheesecake, but this one swayed me. Wait till people in this thread get theirs, my guess is similar praise.

Can't anybody check to see what was actually charged to their credit card?

Did this 3 days ago (and 5 "friends" did it 5 days ago) and all charges - on the online CC statement read $14.85. This is not really a new thing, I've done it in the past an have never been charged the shipping price as long as I was a new member. e.g., if one were to move etc., Perhaps people that are being charged for shipping have a cookie present on their system?

Well, after I called and cancelled my order since I saw the $10+ shipping, I got the email...which said it was $14.85. So I called to re-instate...and was told there was STILL a shipping charge of $10+. They said the confirmation email DOES NOT SHOW SHIPPING COSTS and they would be charged in addendum to the steaks/burgers/pie costs.

I called another CSR and got the same thing...and they weren't going to throw in free shipping..manager wouldn't do it either...

So, in short,

BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!!

Even though your email SAYS $15, you are STILL going to be charged the $10+ for shipping!!!

Similar experience---I forgot to process the coupon, and when I called to check on my order, it was for around $50, even though the confirmation e-mail said $39. Beware!!
