860 evo slow after firmware update

Hey my Samsung 860 evo recently updated it's firmware and now it is a lot slower, can anyone tell me what is going on, does anyone here understand Crystal disk mark? Thanks a lot

Can you please define what "a lot slower" looks like to you? That looks like a perfectly normal SATA SSD benchmark to me.

Maybe the update disabled RAPID support, which is basically smoke-and-mirrors just for benchmarks anyways.

Larry, before the firmware update the 4Kib Q3T1 numbers were in the 300's

After looking at all of the benchmark numbers, yeah, it does look a little bit slower.

Are the CPU and RAM and clockspeed of the benchmark host the same for both tests? Same power plan and settings? What was the CPU load at the time, sometimes higher CPU loads reduce the power-management low-power transition states, that can negatively affect benchmarks.

everything is the same, there is only 20 minutes between the tests, I am wondering if this will be for all 860 evo's with the firmware update :/

I had the same result, and found out that the SATA connection was now being negotiated by the SSD as only supporting SATA 2 3Gb/s, instead of the previous SATA 3 6Gb/s speeds that it ran at before.

Luckily I just bought the drive from Amazon and was able to get a replacement. I found some other forum posts mentioning this problem as well, but I can't find them now.

If you use Crystal Disk Info, it will tell you what transfer mode it can max at, and what it's seeing... that might help you troubleshoot it.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, it displays what the port is capable of, and the transfer rate the drive is at, I believe.

good to know, i wasnt about to run around updating fw on my ssd's tho.
