More recent feedback is reporting this series is improving with drivers. The GDDR2 cards will still take an overclock too.

If he needs to stay within this price range, these 3650s are a good choice. They will greatly benefit from new drivers. It took the 8600 series several months to surpass the 7600 series. The 3650 series, even those with GDDR2, have more power, they just need driver optimization. Plus, you have the option of crossfire if you find another compatible card, even some from the 2XXX or future 4XXX gen. This means that if you ever spot a hot $25 deal on Ebay, it could very well be a viable upgrade.

Or you could get one of the myriad 7600GTs for about the same level of performance as the 8600GT and still have 40 bucks of store credit left over for when you have the money for a real video card or other upgrade.
The 8600 is not a terrible entry level card, but at $100 it's about $40 overpriced.

yeah well I'm only using this 8600gt til I save up for a better card to go with my e6750, will probably get the 9600gt like it says in my sig. I'm sure I can get a decent amount on ebay for my old card. My only point was the 8600gt isn't bad if that's all you can get. I got it not knowing what to expect and have been pleasantly surprised. It tears games based on older engines like TF2.
