8800 GT = Biggest paper launch of 2007???

I'm sure most folks here remember all the assorted "paper launches" of the last couple of years in CPU as well as graphics. It looked like most companies finally got that out of there system.

And then the 8800 GT comes along. I haven't seen any in stock since just a few days after they were released. Not to mention that the MRSP just keeps going up and up and up on these things.

Can anyone remember a BIGGER paper launch of 2007??? Maybe after we get a good list, we can start a proper pole to vote on the biggest!

I have found 8800gt's available everyday since the launch. It all depends on what version or price you want to pay. Look around you can always find one for around $300. Still though it is in limited quantities

Barcelona was worse? I have to admit, I don't pay much attention to AMD CPUs. Sort of an occupational hazard...

Anyone else second the Barcelona paper launch being worse?

8800GTs just sold out really fast. I actually got one for myself yesterday - shipped today. You just have to look out for them.

It's unfortunate, but Phenom is actually the biggest paper launch of all time.

The 8800GT was a hard launch, it's just that demand is very high and nVidia didn't supply enough cards to meet it.

Then you wait for the card; if you were unfortunate enough to not be a first adopter of the 8800GT at reasonable prices, then that's just too damn bad.

You're gonna have to wait for it or look for alternatives. Nvidia dropped the ball with the supply of these chips, and now that that's the issue, you can't help but prices to simply go up due to high demand and low supply relationships.

The biggest paper launch definitely belongs to Samsung with HD103 1TB hard drive. The drive was "announced" to be shipping about 6 month ago and apart from 10 or so drives what must be an engineering samples it is still not available anywhere in the world.

Well they better have enough of the new GTS's being launched in December, cos i just held off pre-ordering an 8800GT for one, i bet its going to be a 8900GTS due to it being a slight upgrade, like the 7800GT to 7900GT.

Great comparison and spot on. The 8800GT was widely available at launch, it just didn't stay in stock (because of high demand) and its price rose beyond MSRP. Not to mention they are/were available at large national B&Ms like BB, Fry's and CUSA as early as a few days after launch.
