8800 GTS 640 - 69C Idle and I get RED atifacts in BF 2

My system has a two year warranty

I started to get a RED line in BF 2 and some glitches , IDLE my GPU is running @ 64 C , is this bad ?

Should I contact my seller?

Or am I over reacting?

That's an awfully high idle temp. Likely it's overheating under load.

For comparison, my GTS 512 (which gives off more heat) is 62C at *load*.

I was at 91 C load until I cleaned it !!!! its now 83 with the case panel off !!!

I don't think those temps are too bad. my 8800gts (320)'s idle at 60 C and 72 C. The 2nd one is hotter because it is underneath the other one and it is a b2 revision where my other one is b3. I've overclocked and seen my temps go up as high as 93 C and still had no artifacts so i don't know where yours are coming from

91 is pushing it. 83 should be okay - are you still getting artifacts?

I did 15 minutes of stress testing and loaded BF 2 - I didnt get any


Then I tried again a few minutes later and I was getting artifacts , load was 85C - This was with the case panel off.

My 7800GT was around 65c seemed to work fine,do't get me started on my 80c idle temp for my 4870 card ,again working fine,do you get that red line with other games?...if so you could RMA due to that.

I spoke to ym vendor and they said they take it back, they said it sounds like its dying.

They are going to send me an 8800 GTS 512, so I'm quite happy with that.

my gts 320 does 58c idle, and under extended furmark testing it goes to 85c (after 30 minutes or so)

My 8800GTS 640 hit 85C under furmark for 15 minutes. No artifacts though.

There sending me an 8800 GTS 512 as a replacement - this should be cooler.
