I'm already getting up to 87C with my card at the speeds in my sig.

I want to push it further, but will probably push the temps up to 95-105C....

Is this safe?

I would not feel comfortable with temps that high. Do you have the fans running at full speed?

100%

3dmark06 and some other games only give me 75-80C, but Stalker can get as high as 87C.

I would not wantg mine to ever go above 90, I have my 8800GTs running at 700/1000 and they never go over 75C under load with fans at 100%. I have the Antec 900 with crazy good airflow in the case. What case do you have?

Yes, I ripped the sticker off.

Just so I know... the sticker you're talking about is a quarter in diameter, right?

hmm somethin is wrong with mine at 100% at 730/1800/1000 it was reaching like 75-80 load and I switched the cooler to a accelero s1 w/ the turbo fans at 760/1800/1020 it's about 38-40 idle and doesnt go above 55 at load..mine is also a bfg I didn't see any film over the heatsink..it could be just that there is too much compound on your's between the gpu and heatsink

Get one of these

AKIMBO Cooler

Should really drop your temps, I may have to pick up a couple of these for my 8800GTs

its just a defective unit... i got a GTS that was running that high (evga) I returned it and got a replacement that is 30c lower... This one obviously has a badly seated heatsink. RMA or reseat it yourself (if you don't mind voiding warranty)

What are your ambients? I wouldn't call those temperatures unsafe, but they are a tad high.

Unless you're seeing artifacts though, you should be safe. Artifacting comes sooner than damaging high temperature.

you can replace heatsinks etc with evga without voiding your warranty, is BFG differant?

You can also break your card from overclocking and have EVGA replace it, I personally find EVGA and XFX worth it in that sense, costs more than most other companies but you break it for any overclocking reason and they'll replace it.

Don't be simple. No companies can prove you overclocked unless it's via jumpers on the card, which isn't the way things work anymore. Overclocking coverage is a gimmick.

Today.... I topped out at 81C with my speeds.

We did have a heatwave here in Los Angeles, so that's why my temps were 90C.

Ooo, I remember LA heat, so much cooler up here in San Jose, in any case hampster, the companies tend to be willing to give in to the small amount of people that actually wreck their cards from overclocking and would rather spend a few thousand replacing all of them instead of getting negative feedback/publicity.

If you don't want high temps or loud fan noises you need to either think of installing your own aftermarket cooling or you need to do a better job at shopping for cards as there are models with much better non-reference cooling options.

As far as aftermarket cooling there are all sorts of options such as the Accelero S1 which can easily lop off a dozen or two degrees C off your temps...and this without a fan even...and can be had for less than $30.

Although if single slot is important to you, well then you shouldn't be overclocking

sigh, more uninformed information from you....

The GTS reference design has a two slot cooler, so if it was running that high it may have been broken for you, but upwards to 90C on a single slot GT is not uncommon.

Which brand name do you have?
I got an XFX recently and it has a decent cooling system & always leaves the fan running at 100%.

I have the BFG. It's in my sig.

I want to keep the warranty, so I'm not changing the fan.

I might OC it this week and report back.... the only thing is that the temp jumps 10+C when it gets hot here.

Did you update the bios? It may very well be that the gpu isnt even isnt spinning to 100%.

If you are not comfortable with the temps I would reduce your OC

I also have a BFB 8800GT but I underclocked it back to factory specs.

The reason why I dialed the card back was to ensure stability and control the temp.

With Rivatuner, I increased the fan speed to 50% and now my card idles at 44C and about 57C under load.

(Of course, having an Antec 900 case with all those fans helps a bunch too.)

I set the fan profile in Rivatuner. I can hear the fan spinning.

BFG just sucks with the coolers... I had a 6800 that hit 85C in load...

BFG is not the problem when it come to the cooler, pretty much everyone uses the reference design. I say RMA the card. Its probably just the heat sink that is incorrectly seated. Next time, get an eVGA, you can do whatever you want to them and never void the warranty. eVGA actually allows you to change the cooler. As long as you return the cooler when you do an RMA.
