If you don't want high temps or loud fan noises you need to either think of installing your own aftermarket cooling or you need to do a better job at shopping for cards as there are models with much better non-reference cooling options.
As far as aftermarket cooling there are all sorts of options such as the Accelero S1 which can easily lop off a dozen or two degrees C off your temps...and this without a fan even...and can be had for less than $30.
Although if single slot is important to you, well then you shouldn't be overclocking

sigh, more uninformed information from you....
The GTS reference design has a two slot cooler, so if it was running that high it may have been broken for you, but upwards to 90C on a single slot GT is not uncommon.
