I have decided that I am going to wait to upgrade my system, until these 2 cards come out...Which card do you guys think will be better and tell me why. Which has better performance? What about price/performance ratio? etc.

I'm going to wait until the RV670 is released before I finalized my decision. So far, it seems that I'm going to go with RV670, since it's supposedly going to have a similar price to the G92, but according to its specs, should be significantly faster than it.

By the time both are released, though, I may be proven wrong, and will be more than happy to change my selection.

Going from leaked specs and performance figures, the RV670 looks to be better price/perf than G92. But we'll have to wait and see...

I think 3870xt or whatever they're calling the 825/2400 gpu is going to come close to 8800gtx. ATI has supposedly fixed the AA/AF problems, too. Nvidia moved their release up as far as possible b/c they know that they're going to lose tons of sales once rv670 is out.

Which looks to run cooler? I have a Shuttle SG33G5 box and I would rather not turn it into a toaster.

I know the RV670 is expected to be made on 55nm versus 65nm for G92, will this have a real impact on thermal dissipation or (I'm sure) is there a lot more to it than that?

actually the 55nm process is supposed to be quite a bit cooler all things being equal. I believe that amd has chosen to ratchet up performance and similar TDP to the nvidia card, however, so you get 10-20% more performance for same heat output. nice!

Actually, wouldnt it be the HD 3850 as the Pro ? Since AMD is dropping the GT, Pro, XT and XTX names .

RV670 is Radeon HD 3800 Series

VR-Zone has learned that the official marketing name for RV670 will be Radeon HD 3800 series. Previously, they are known as Radeon HD 2950 series. Earlier, AMD has made changes to the naming of the Phenom processors and now the changes are being made to the graphics cards too. As such, AMD has decided to drop PRO, XT, GT, XTX from their future HD 3000 series graphics series and the last 2 digits of the series will determine the performance of the card. RV670PRO will be known as Radeon HD 3850 while RV670XT will be know as Radeon HD 3870 when they are launched on Nov 15th.

I'm getting one. can't wait...

I'm probably going to jump on 8800gt unless ATI fixed their AF quality and AA performance. If it's only 10% difference in frame rate it won't make a difference to me. I like better IQ over minuscule frame rate advantage.

Same here Azn. I prefer IQ over speed myself. So I believe *so far* Ill go with the RV670 myself.

Prices in Sweden, Europe: 8800GT 512MB will cost 235? (compare to 265? for HD2900 PRO and 295? for 8800 GTS 320MB). Basically it's expected that 8800GT 512MB will be fighting against HD3850, not HD3870

1.42629USD = 1?
-------

From leaked specs I could think that 8800 GT will beat HD3870. Why? According to leaked data HD3870 would be just 10% faster than HD2900XT when 8800 GT would be Much Much faster than 8800 GTS:
97% of the ALU performance of a GTX (145% of a GTS)
91% of the texturing performance (140% GTS)
70% of the "ROP power" (pixel fill, z test etc.) (96% GTS)
67% of the memory bandwidth (90% GTS)

What I'd presume is that 8800 GT will be ahead in DX10 titles(Since GTS is ahead of HD2900XT), tight in new DX9 games and HD3870 will win in little bit older games.

I don't expect the 8800GT to be as fast as the GTS in DX9 either, but definitely for DX10 it will do very well, which I guess is the point since it's better to have a card that can do about 30fps in both modes rather than a card that does 40 in DX9 but 20 in DX10.

I don't think that smaller framebuffer compared to 8800 GTS 640MB will matter..I mean that i have GTS 640MB and I don't get that kind of memory consumption that would ask more than 512MB memory (I have 22" monitor that can reach 1680x1050 resolution). Also that bandwith shouldn't come bottleneck before those resolutions that neither card can handle anyway. That's why I think that it will beat GTS all realistic occasions, but specially in DX10.

But this card will fight against 3850, not 3870..atleast in northern Europe that is . I'm waiting for new GTS 640MB and GTX..Now that 8800 GT 512MB costs only 235? in Sweden (when making price comparisons it would be 205-210? in Finland..) so I wouldn't expect new GTS be too expensive..

I'll be getting the one with Flat Panel Scaling... and unless someone corrects me, that means I'll be getting the 8800GT. Hopefully the ATI card puts some (more?) serious downward pressure on the 8800GT though.

Why is that? If you prefer IQ than Nvidia has the lead right now unless AMD fixed their AF and better than Nvidia's 16x CSAA to top Nvidia. We'll just have to wait and see if AMD actually fixed it.

I certainly hope AMD fixed AA and AF. And I also hope they found a way to get all of those shaders kept busy. Here's to hoping that R600 was but a stepping stone to much better things.

i am still not convinced it is broken for an upper-midrange GPU. If 2900xt was aimed at the GTX, i'd agree completelty. i didn't find AA performance of the 2900xt any less then the GTS 640 at resolutions up to and including 16x12. At higher resolutions, they generally both tank to unplayable framerates.
-Here's also hoping for much better GPUs from both companys.
