I certainly hope AMD fixed AA and AF. And I also hope they found a way to get all of those shaders kept busy. Here's to hoping that R600 was but a stepping stone to much better things.

i am still not convinced it is broken for an upper-midrange GPU. If 2900xt was aimed at the GTX, i'd agree completelty. i didn't find AA performance of the 2900xt any less then the GTS 640 at resolutions up to and including 16x12. At higher resolutions, they generally both tank to unplayable framerates.
-Here's also hoping for much better GPUs from both companys.
perhaps you should do a little more searching on the web. the 2900xt absolutely tanks when using AA compared to the fps without it.

perhaps you should look much more carefully

when it "tanks" it tanks down to 8800-GTS level
toyota, you are picking a fight with the ultimate 2900xt apologist. don't start, you can't win.

it don't need any more 'apologies' then the 8800GTS ...
it is "equalvalent" in every respect and priced the same ...

*agreed* CM, "some" games 2900xt still beats the GTS with AA enabled

the only reason your might apologize is if YOUR expectations were as high as the GTX's ... no way a $400 card will do that [except without AA - in SOME games]

I wasnt really comparing it to any other card. I was just saying that its performance takes a massive hit with AA on compared to what it does without it.

I'd get my first ATI card in 10 years if they finally put in aspect-ratio scaling. This wasn't an issue for me until a year ago when I finally jumped on the LCD train, the first LCD attached to my gaming machines of course being a widescreen. Nvidia has had hiccups but aspect-ratio scaling has worked perfectly on my 7900GT since hooking up this 2007WFP to it last year. My opinion of Nvidia has fallen enough now that if ATI gets their ass in gear, they'd get my money.

As it stands, the 8800GT sounds like the card I've been waiting since March to jump on. Still hoping for a faster part at the same time though...

Guess I will have to try a machine with a newer nvidia card, as I thought my x1900gt worked fine with a 22" widescreen lcd. Looks great, but if something looks better.....

I'll get a 8800gt and won't be upset if it isn't quite as good, because I'll probably buy from evga, and their step up program is pretty nice. Plus like someone said the aspect ratio is a nice nvidia feature (wasn't aware ati didn't have something similar).

Actually I'm pretty sure AMD and Nvidia were caught price fixing by the feds. I'm not sure what came of it, but they apparently were caught working together to keep the price of graphics cards artificially high. :Q

ATI was recently busted up for some kind of massive corruption involving the president of the company. They were found guilty and had to pay massive fines.
