8800gt Graphical Anomalies

Hi,

Not to long ago I bought a MSI NX8800gt OC that came with a duel slot cooler. When i inspected it, i noticed that it didn't come with ram sinks... No biggie right? Well now it seems when i play bf2 or games along that line; i've been experiencing graphical anomalies. Spikes and sorts. I've searched around the web and found that the ram may be the problem. Do you think its the ram over-hearting due to the default factory OC? and if so are any other's out there experiencing the same problems? Also i haven't under-clocked the ram yet. It may or may not remedy the problem, but i will try and post the results. Any other inputs would be greatly appreciated.

well i just tried underclocking the card. and it didn't remedy the problem =( any thoughts on this?

As far as I know, MSI only makes one 8800GT, and as you can see, the heatsink covers the VRAM. What driver are you using?

these are the new cooler for the NX8800gt. it may seem like it covers the ram chips but it doesn't =/. http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814127329 i'm running the latest nvidia drivers (169.21)

The heatsink may "look" like it cools the memory, but it does not. This heatsink makes no contact with the memory. It is being complained about in some of the Newegg reviews.

Much of my pondering if the ram was the culprit; i went ahead and slapped on some ram sinks and to much to my amazement it remedied the problem =/. I still can't think of a reason why MSI would purposely OC the card w/ sufficient cooling to the gpu but not the ram. I just hope during the short time i had it w/o the ramsinks it didn't damage the onboard ram.

RAM is different. Some run fine with only airflow and some need to be downclocked, like mine. Hopefully the problem will be fixed soon, I'm cutting apart old heatsinks and epoxying them on.
