8800GT or 8800GTS?

Those were the fastest of each respective video card I could find. Granted, the XFX has a volt-mod where the Gainward doesn't, but almost 8000 marks ... without the volt mod it was an easy 4000 ahead anyway. I know these are synthetic benchies, but apparently vr-zone doesn't give FPS real life stats.

Basically, Id like to know the best card to for the $350 price point (I know the 8800GTs run less than that, but price/performance value) and what the new cards are going to bring to the table, everyone keeps saying to go with 8800gt or wait for the next line.

I would go with the 8800GT, it's only a bit slower and unless you want to play Crysis the 8800GT will run every other game out there at max settings, if your monitor doesn't exceed 1680x1050 then go for the 8800GT, if you want to play Crysis and/or your monitor exceed that resolution then the 8800GTS might be a better purchase just remember these cards are more than a year old and it seems like ATI/NV are FINALLY coming up with something new.

Why not just wait for a month and see how much the 9xxx series cards are? If nothing else, maybe this stuff will go down in price...

Or you can buy an eVGA card and have 90 days to use their step up program if the new cards are worth it. I'm pretty sure they will be on the street in 90 days.

That's what I'm doing. And by the way I'm going with the new eVGA 8800GTS 512mb because at stock speed it's faster then the 8800GT and it has a large fan that sends the heat out of the case. This fan also let's you overclock it to amazing levels. Some folks have gotten as high as 800mhz OC on the core.

Newegg has a special with a $20 rebate and crysis game for $319

How much money do you have? are you a sucker?

If you are a normal person the GT hands down...
If you have lots of money get the GTS for the slightly better performance... (extra stream processors)
The 8800GTX performs about the same as the GTSv3 but costs 200 more, and the ultra is slightly faster and 200$ more, so unless you are you are a sucker you shouldn't buy either. (Since the GF9 is right around the corner)...
Now if you are REALLY rich and MUST play crisys at max settings, get a tri SLI 8800Ultra setup... but thats probably still suckerage. You could wait a few more monthes.
