8800GT Possibly Failing?

Hey all I recently traded for a build on here a little while ago and put it together, well I was short of a video card and my dad had just upgraded so I got his "older" Asus EN8800GT Top Geforce 512mb videocard. So after running it for a while I didn't do much gaming on it, since I have a 360 and recently got a PS3 but now for some reason, I'm assuming maybe its failing? But after 5 - 20 mins in pretty much any game my computer locks up, then goes to blue screen and starts running some stuff and then its reboots. Well If i downclock my 8800's core / memory clock using EVGA Precision by say 50MHz, it begins to run for like close to an hour or two but then same thing happends? Is this a failing video card or is this an overheating issue? Secondly I have a question about my monitor, reason I'm posting this here is im not sure if its my monitor or my GFX card but for example sometimes my monitor will shut off and the green light will blink. I have to turn it all the way off, wait 10 seconds, shake my mouse real fast and hold the power button till it turns on. Now I have a Viewsonic Q20wb, and I'm running Windows 7 Ult 64, any help is greatly appreciated!

Oh and one last thing, anyone know how to fix the refresh rate in windows 7? My monitors set to run at 60 but I guess WIn7 recognizes it at 59.9X so I get lines coming down my screen sometimes, anyway thanks again anyone for any help!

Well its a bumpgate card so its almost guaranteed to fail eventually depending on how hard it ends up being used.

Alright cool well thanks guys I appreciate the help, the last thing involving the monitor, do you think thats the monitor or the GFX card? Heres a good example....

this morning I woke up, turned on my computer and I have to wait til its booted up all the way then i shake my mouse and hold the power button and it will come on. Then I checked my ebay, walked my dog for 15 - 20 mins came back and the power button was blinking and the monitor was off. So i held the power till it was off and had to wait 10 seconds and then repeat ( shake mouse and hold power ) its extremely annoying so I'm wondering if its the gfx card or my monitor? What do you guys think?

I have seen another Viewsonic monitor do this. It was about 3.5 years old (I sold it to my friend after 2.5 years, Woops!).

It was the power supply to the LCD that was on it's way out. It would work 'till the caps on the power supply heated up and then the monitor would lose signal and would only work again after standing for a while. Problem disappeared with a different monitor.

I would suggest checking your computer with a different display to rule that line of enquiry out.

Run with a different monitor for a while to determine if the screen is the issue. The rest of your issues sound heat related. Make sure all the fans are spinning, and aren't completely filled with dust .

Alright cool thanks guys for the help and ya I try to atleast blow out my computer once a week, last week my computers video card heatsink fan stopped completely, then after a shutdown, unplug and replug all gfx card wires i booted up again and the hsf hasn't stopped yet, so ya I imagine its just old and tired so anyway thanks again guys for the help!
