Ah, good times are coming, FINALLY. I'm looking forward to a REAL battle b/t NVidia and AMD (funny...almost said ATI ) and the winner gets my money! $$$$$$$

I'm glad I have held out with my 7900GTO...I almost pulled the plug on a 8800GTS 640 so many times, it's not funny.

I've planned roughly $350 for my next GPU upgrade...but would go higher if the card really is "all that and a bag of chips. We'll see what comes down the pipe.

I may just say "screw it!" and buy the 8800GT when it first hits...and try to sell it later.

The thoughts of a dual-GPU on a single card, high-end card, even at $500 makes me dizzy with imagined gaming goodness.

I should add that I play at 1920x1200 (with AA/AF when I can get away w/it)_, so I really WILL use any graphics-muscle there is in the new cards.

Yea im in the same boat. My 7900gto has been more than enough and now im glad I didn't give in. I held out mostly because I know the intense games would start coming out in November and really couldnt see anything that was out that would really give me a boost.

This also may be the first time I have even considered SLI. Esp with the single slot.

me three.... this shall go good with crysis.

I can wait until better and cheaper hardware comes out to play it in all its glory. Spending all kinds of money now trying to do so is just not worth it.

Edit, meant to say DX9, too. And adding another 2GB of ram, if it'll help, is no problem.
It doesn't look that great on medium. I hate to say it, but it really does resemble Far Cry, albeit with more features and better physics. You will be able to run it at 1600x1200 on medium tho. My 8800GTS runs it nicely at 720P with 4XAA, with almost every setting on high, and I find it looks better than medium at 1920x1200.

Well it's the same engine that's been modified. Of course it's going to behave somewhat like Farcry. The whole jungle theme has been done before from Crytek. Now it's ice jungle with North Koreans and add super jump, super speed, cloak and you got Crysis.

and they only use 2GB of ram on their testing machine... mmm, although seeing as they are testing on XP with DX9 that shouldn't be a problem...

At either the end of this year, or the start of next year, I shall update from a 4200ti to probably an 8800GT (or AMD equivalent depending on which is better). I anticipate significant performance increases hahaha. <3 How the release almost coincides perfectly with the end of my exams.

looks like ATI might take the crown after all with this ATI HD 3800.........lol.

They just might. Supposedly, ATI fixed it's AA/AF issues with the 55nm HD38xx's.
I think these will surprise us. Not too long of a wait now. We'll see soon enough.

Interesting, according to Tom's the GT is even quieter than the dual-slot nVidia cards. This is a pleasant surprise as single slot coolers are usually noisy as hell.

The 2900XT OTOH under load is simply terrible in those noise charts.

You're reading the graphs wrong - with AF + AA (red and blue bars) it's slower than both the GTX and the GT.

Can't be sure, but I think he was being sarcastic.

Bests the 640GTS 512MB by leaps and bounds? Roughly 15FPS higher across the board at all resolutions! AND roughly 90% of the performance of a GTX for $250? If my MB was SLI capable, I'd be buying two. Heh, the 8800GTS is dead and the GTX is really not practical anymore either.

NVidia must have one hell of an upcoming high-end part up it's sleeve to release the 8800GT! But, by the time it comes out and the price gouging on it stops, I'll have enjoyed my 8800GT for 6 months, at least. We win!

i missed this at the very end:

Cevat Yerli: Very, very well. Stay tuned for more on this. In mid November you will see the new NVidia cards. They are a blast for Crysis and really, really very good deals.

Mid-November, eh? Well, crap, now I don't know what to do.

NCIX is selling the EVGA Superclocked version for $240 (but I'm reading in the "Where do you buy your 8800GT?) thread that they are NOT giving all the free bundled items...not that it really matters to me as I already own Hitman: BM.

Three weeks from now when NVidia's new big guns come out, I doubt the 8800GT will be any more expensive than it is now. Heck, even at $40 MORE than it sells for now, it's still a good deal.

If there's a new 8800GTX killer (by a lot, not just a few FPS) out there and it's less than $500, I may just get it.

I'm happy w/the rest of my system (3.2GHz C2D/2GB RAM/Corsair 620HX) so I guess it's time for a big GPU upgrade.

Maybe I'll wait 'til mid-Nov. :clock:

If I can sell my 8800gtws 640 for what it would cost me to the 8800gt, why wouldn't I?

it does seem like a laterly move. But quiter, and single slot. and purevideo all seem like good things to me.

Notice they are using windows xp in the benches. ATI also needs to fix vista drivers because games based on Unreal engine take a nose dive in vista along with some other games. It's not looking too good for ATI. Only time will tell and maybe they'll surprise us with their 55nm part but I have my doubts.

really? when would that be? the anantech review keeps talking about 200$ too but i really don't that happening initially....my guess is it will be 250 and as high as 299 to rip off the early buyers who can't wait to get one

Initially I'm expecting quite a bit of price gouging, especially from the online retailers.

Pretty impressed with this card. Performs very well, is a single slot solution, and is relatively cheap.

Wow, that is impressive. I think I found my next card, and the first NVIDIA in a very long time.
It is amazing how close it is to the GTX performance wise and for half the price.
