is that 200*C or 200*F, cuz 200*F isn't going to do anything.

Obviously 200*C because it shorted. As you can melt the solder to reconnect a broken connection you may aswell create an entirely new connection

It's scary what you did to your poor video card. Im shocked and happy it worked out great for you. Or perhaps a miracle ...

Next we need a user to dump the video card in the pool or pool of water and see if it can survive LOL, jk jk dont try this at home fellaz. Thanks

Add me to the list, baked an ATI X800XL well over a year ago and it still working find in my basement "browsing" computer. Perfectly good AMD64 3700 socket 754 system (agp) that I would have trashed otherwise because replacement parts are not cost effective.

I found out about it reading an Anandtech thread and the person who mentioned it in that thread endured heaps of criticism as well. Sometimes conventional wisdom and reality don't mix.

The procedure must be done carefully and exactly as instructed. Probably a good idea to wipe down the oven interior afterward too.

On the cards that have been baked and are now working can you tell if the boards are warped ? Hold the card so the edge of the cards boards is level and you shouldn't be able to see anything but the edge of the pcb.

I've noticed a trend with video cards and warped pcb as the size of the heatsink and the amount of heat they produce has increased. That warping could cause chips to separate from the pcb traces. I take the precaution now of attaching a zip tie to the far corner of the video card, there is usually a hole in the board already there, and pulling the corner of the card up to the top of the case until there is no deflection in the board. It usually doesn't take much force to pull a card up so it is level inside the case and may help extend the life.

I had a really old ATI 9800 Pro that displayed just like that out of the box and ATI diagnosed it as a bad memory bank. If it is a memory chip itself, baking won't work.

When I threw in my X800XL, it was dead Jim (no signal) and it was obsolete (unlike your card), so I didn't really care what would happen (as long as no fire was involved).
