8800gts prices

It seemed like 8800gts prices were steadily dropping for a long time... there were great deals every week... what happened? I can't find ANY good deals anymore, and prices seem to be what they were at months ago... when will they drop?

I paid $380 before shipping and taxes for my 8800GTS back in November/December. Prices have barely dropped from there. All I see are a bunch of "after rebate" deals here and there.

I'm kinda glad prices haven't dropped as much. Usually when I upgrade, I miss a hot deal a week later.. I'm guessing they'll drop in time for Christmas.

Pretty good deal, but I wouldn't say prices are dropping over a coupon and a rebate.

Is there any trick to get the 10% off paypal to work? I choose checkout via paypal and didnt see the additional 10% listed anywhere. any help would be appreciated.

Isn't there some competition to the 8800 line coming? If so, when? That would be a good forecaster for price drops, I think

I'm beginning to think that the 10% paypal may not be stackable with the already applied 15% discount.

there is a rumor that a "9800" is coming out. Nothing but rumors yet, and there isn't really a price drop going on, just rebates and such bringing it down.

fyi, got this off of hardforums, may be why the paypal isnt working.

I'm looking back and seeing that prices were lower with rebates and such back in February... wish I would've jumped on the bandwagon 6 months ago lol. I was wondering about ATI, is there anything comparable to the 8800's coming from them? Not really interested in it to buy, but maybe to put some market pressure on.

EDIT: Just read on a forum that for someone who ordered yesterday, the expected ship date was 9/13. I think I'll pony up and get it from newegg or clubit.

figured it out! first go here: http://accessories.us.dell.com...en&s=dhs&~topic=paypal and add your item from there. Then once you choose checkout and select paypall the additional 10% is taken off. Resulting in $335 before tax, shipping is free. Ends up being $364 after taxes here in cali. Very very tempting.

I'd buy it right now if it wasn't for a 2 week waiting period. You have to weigh whether 2 weeks is worth $43... I'm not sure.

I got that from Dell for $264.16 with shipping and CA Tax. I think its backordered, but you can still order it. Need to use Payal just like in the above 640MB Dell deal.

Nvidia fanboys must be pleased that ATI is doing so terribly at offering any kind of competition that they get to enjoy sky high prices that never seem to go down any more on their favorite brand of choice.

When will prices drop? Maybe never. I can't believe I have not seen anyone raise the question of when NVIDIA is actually going to release new cards.

Seems that ATI doing so terribly may be the worst thing to happen to the video card industry.

Exactly. Do you think I am happy recommending 8800GTS cards? I could care less. Owned Radeon 8500 before and then NV 6600. Now I have 8800 because ATI didn't deliver anything at $250. However, unless you really are struggling in your favourite games, it might make sense to wait it out a little bit since either GF9 will come out or a faster refresh rate card. The only caveat is that Nvidia might really take advantage here and only release $400+ GF9 cards leaving everything else unchanged and simply phasing out the expensive 8800GTX card. With little competition, they could wait until Q1 2008 before ATI releases anything decent (I hope I am wrong). I just feel that since GF8 was around for almost a year and prices havent' fallen much, it's not a great time to buy one. The only reason I snagged one up was because it was a really really good deal.

I bought the above deal from Dell, and despite it saying the expected ship date was 9/14, they shipped it and it will be here Tuesday. Guess they like to give themselves LOTS of leeway on these kinds of things.

Anyone got that mail in rebate form from the Dell website? Forgot to download it...
