If they make an 8850GX2, I'd be impressed. Needless to say, there's no chance in hell I'd ever consider buying one.

$1000! I will never, ever, spend that much on a graphics card....

I'm betting the price will fall pretty quickly though once the R600 comes out... COme on ATI, release it already, NVIDIA's dominance is getting too defined in the high-end market...

pffft, give it 10 years. We're already over $500 as a norm for just released top of the line cards. I agree though that this is just another reason why ATi needs to get moving. If they would release a card soon...oh well wishful thinking..

Yeah optimally I don't want to spend anymore then that on a video card, but I am hoping the 8800 GTS 640 drops to 400 CDN, or so as I don't want any bottlenecks.

I would expect any video card in this price range to have an extremely limited production.

And over 99% of buyers never buy a $500 GPU, so no.
And yes, $999 is STUPID. Anyone who buys one at that price is wasting their money no matter how much of it they have.

I think it will be a grand for maybe a month.

And then they will be sold out.

Because they can't get a high enough yield. haha!

I do hope it dies off, so that I won't find myself going to newegg everyday, reading the 3 overly positive user reviews, my cursor hovering over the Add to Cart Button...

While your point is made... lets try to be a little realistic. Its not even close to 99%.

Blender? Nah, that's too valuable. More like a keychain or beach towel...

$999 is ridiculous.

However, if it performs as well as 8800GTX SLi then it might be a viable option for those who were going to get 2x8800GTX anyways. They might actually save some money.

Perhaps this will be the true introduction of Quad SLi. Maybe even the launch of SLi 2.0???

I doubt this will perform as well as 8800GTX SLI...maybe 8800GTS SLI...MAYBE. Even the 7950GX2 was not near 7900GTX SLI was it??

They're obviously gonna have to downclock it a bit any maybe cut down the memory bus and memory amount so I highly doubt this will outperform 8800GTX SLI.

A rumour I read (I think from the Inquirer) said that the X2900XTX2 would have 2 R600 cores and only cost $600 but with only 2 256bit memory buses, and the X2900XTX would cost $500. If those prices are true then that's not bad.

I still remember the 7800GTX 512 costing close to $1000 CAD without tax...about $850US....and I thought THAT was expensive....although the performance delta between the cards is a bit large.

Although I would never buy one, I hope the $999 price tag is not for real...or at least that retailers don't charge that much.

Don't forget that the 7950GX2 didnt sport two full blown 7900 cores. It uses two mobile G71 GPUs. The 7950GX2 also had down clocked cores and slower memory. Nvidia did this on purpose in order to keep tradition SLi setups faster and to keep the price down.

It will be interesting to see if this "Ultra" has two full blown G80 cores and keeps the memory buses intact.

Another thing worth mentioning is that if this card is truly a GX2 type card, then Nvidia must have SLi working in Vista.

I just can't see myself spending $999 for a video card. My limit seems to be right around $500 or so.
