$999 is ridiculous.
However, if it performs as well as 8800GTX SLi then it might be a viable option for those who were going to get 2x8800GTX anyways. They might actually save some money.
Perhaps this will be the true introduction of Quad SLi. Maybe even the launch of SLi 2.0???

Wasn't the SLI 2.0 launch supposed to be in May? Also, wouldn't they be able to possibly do 6-way SLI with the QuadFX platform and 3 of these cards? 8-way is not possible with 4 dual-slot cards in an ATX form-factor.
IIRC, 4,6,and 8 way is supported in SLI 2.0.

I've only read one short blurb about SLI 2.0 and the only thing they were solid on was official support for more cards(4,6,8) in SLI and the ability to use different card models and possibly generations in SLI.

Blender? Nah, that's too valuable. More like a keychain or beach towel...

pffft, give it 10 years. We're already over $500 as a norm for just released top of the line cards.
And over 99% of buyers never buy a $500 GPU, so no.
And yes, $999 is STUPID. Anyone who buys one at that price is wasting their money no matter how much of it they have.
While your point is made... lets try to be a little realistic. Its not even close to 99%.

That was my reaction when Intel was selling the PIII 1GHz for over $1k

So you want to talk about realistic but you don't think that for every $500 videocard sold, 99 cheaper ones are sold? Okay, true, it's probably closer to 1000:1. (That'd be 99.9% though, which means I'm not all that far off percentage-wise.)

Sure it is, if you talk about $400 Dell's. Which we arent. In this topic alone, its much less than 99 to 1. You tried to make a point by over exaggerating, its ok. Its not a big deal. I just pointed it out.

You guys are also forgetting that 7800GTX 512mb had an MSRP of like $650 set by Nvidia.
The reason why it was so expensive was the blood sucking vendors were price gouging because supplies were so low.
I find it hard to believe that Nvidia would set an MSRP of $999 for this card unless it was something REALLY special.
