8GB
Horizon Forbidden West 3060 is faster than the 2080 Super despite the former usually competing with the 2070. Also 3060 has a better 1% low than 4060 and 4060Ti 8GB.
Resident Evil Village 3060TI/3070 tanks at 4K and is slower than the 3060/6700XT when ray tracing:
Company Of Heroes 3060 has a higher minimum than the 3070TI:

10GB / 12GB

Reasons why still shipping 8GB since 2014 isn't NV's fault.
  1. It's the player's fault.
  2. It's the reviewer's fault.
  3. It's the developer's fault.
  4. It's AMD's fault.
  5. It's the game's fault.
  6. It's the driver's fault.
  7. It's a system configuration issue.
  8. Wrong settings were tested.
  9. Wrong area was tested.
  10. Wrong games were tested.
  11. 4K is irrelevant.
  12. Texture quality is irrelevant as long as it matches a console's.
  13. Detail levels are irrelevant as long as they match a console's.
  14. There's no reason a game should use more than 8GB, because a random forum user said so.
  15. It's completely acceptable for the more expensive 3070/3070TI/3080 to turn down settings while the cheaper 3060/6700XT has no issue.
  16. It's an anomaly.
  17. It's a console port.
  18. It's a conspiracy against NV.
  19. 8GB cards aren't meant for 4K / 1440p / 1080p / 720p gaming.
  20. It's completely acceptable to disable ray tracing on NV while AMD has no issue.
  21. Polls, hardware market share, and game title count are evidence 8GB is enough, but are totally ignored when they don't suit the ray tracing agenda.
According to some people here, 8GB is neeeevaaaaah NV's fault and objective evidence "doesn't count" because of reasons(tm). If you have others please let me know and I'll add them to the list. Cheers!

Strix Point has up to 16 CU, and while those no guarantee that AMD increases to 24 CU with their next generation, if they don't the one after definitely will.

I don't think it will be more than 3 years to see some mainstream part that hits those targets.
If AMD does not push the limits, Intel will. Being it is no longer a one horse race. Hopefully the competition will get us faster AND cheaper. The system ram bottlenecking performance is still preferable to not having enough fast GDDR on a dGPU.

One example: I messed around with settings in Shadow of War with the hi res texture pack using a 5700G. Even back then it required an 8GB card when most were on 2-6GB cards. I found that no matter what I did, the game looked like PS2/PS3 mixed together. Pop in was so bad it was not worth playing. Until I used max textures. That setting alone made the difference night and day.

Strix Halo should also have a cutdown version, I am just not so sure If It will be 24CU, 32CU looks more likely to me.

Not sure how It will compare against dGPUs, I think somewhere between 4060 and 4070 mobile.
The problem is that likely next gen will be out by then, but If they will be limited to 8GB Vram, then this could be an interesting option depending on price.

I don't think any AMD apu (other than one ordered by a console player such as steam, PlayStation, Surface or apple) will make a difference to a dGPU

Simply because from a differentiation point of view, AMD would cut down GPU CUs, if they scaled down CPU cores.

As Cary Golomb said, AMD needs to go wide & low both with memory & GPU (simultaneously reducing power/area budget for CPU), like apple.
Microsoft if they wanted could make it happen, but it seems they have gone an xbox o/s route & outsourced hardware to Asus, Lenovo etc, which would be generic kraken point like APUs

Strix halo could be the KabyLake-G of its time, but strictly in niche products. This will never see wide adoption

Another game that exceeds 8GB even with the short test runs W1z uses.

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/the-first-descendant-fps-performance-benchmark/5.html

I would add the caveat that's only when you start turning RT and other bells/whistles on. It can handle 1080p with Ultra settings (at least within the test parameters which may not show a full picture) otherwise.

The 4060 is already below 60 FPS even before turning any of the other settings like RT on, so I'm not sure how many people would want to use it eve assuming that it wasn't going to require more than 8 GB.

Meanwhile the 8/16 GB models of the 4060 Ti are within margin of error of each other for all tests, which could suggest they're either no long enough to expose any issues pertaining to VRAM or that the game will drop texture quality on the fly if it can't load them in time. Further analysis would be necessary to determine which case we're looking at.

Yup. But it's all academic as none of the bigger bar better fps have FG. Uses over 8GB at 900p for flying spaghetti monster's sake. And it will only get worse when you play the game instead of testing it for a hot second.

Best Buy Canada had a Zotac 4060 for $310 Canadian pesos yesterday, which is US$228. I think in that price range it's perfectly acceptable to pick an 8GB card.
US$390 for an 8GB 4060 Ti is just out to lunch though.
LOLZ I know why Zotac is dropping prices, they just had a major customer privacy leak. GN should have a vid on it soon. They evidently fixed it, but it is still in the Google cache as of now. Don't ask me for links or anything, you have an internet connection, use it.

Just saw that, was it confirmed Zotac? Don't think it would really affect most end users unless they're actually creating accounts to register their product, but it's still an almost laughable security breach.

I am going to follow up on Zotac, though it is off topic. Why? Because it appears we have finally been ghosted. Consequently there is no more dissention, and all we can do content wise, is wait for each new game showing $300-$400 8GB cards age like warm milk.

Hah, zotac fixed it within 4 hours of being notified of it.
Not exactly They fixed it within 4hrs of biz clients complaining. Some of which was at Steve's prompting after making them aware of the issue. Zotac helped the person that gave Steve the heads up, but failed to solve the larger problem. When I posted about it, significantly more than 4hrs had already passed since the initial report.
