8GB
Horizon Forbidden West 3060 is faster than the 2080 Super despite the former usually competing with the 2070. Also 3060 has a better 1% low than 4060 and 4060Ti 8GB.
Resident Evil Village 3060TI/3070 tanks at 4K and is slower than the 3060/6700XT when ray tracing:
Company Of Heroes 3060 has a higher minimum than the 3070TI:

10GB / 12GB

Reasons why still shipping 8GB since 2014 isn't NV's fault.
  1. It's the player's fault.
  2. It's the reviewer's fault.
  3. It's the developer's fault.
  4. It's AMD's fault.
  5. It's the game's fault.
  6. It's the driver's fault.
  7. It's a system configuration issue.
  8. Wrong settings were tested.
  9. Wrong area was tested.
  10. Wrong games were tested.
  11. 4K is irrelevant.
  12. Texture quality is irrelevant as long as it matches a console's.
  13. Detail levels are irrelevant as long as they match a console's.
  14. There's no reason a game should use more than 8GB, because a random forum user said so.
  15. It's completely acceptable for the more expensive 3070/3070TI/3080 to turn down settings while the cheaper 3060/6700XT has no issue.
  16. It's an anomaly.
  17. It's a console port.
  18. It's a conspiracy against NV.
  19. 8GB cards aren't meant for 4K / 1440p / 1080p / 720p gaming.
  20. It's completely acceptable to disable ray tracing on NV while AMD has no issue.
  21. Polls, hardware market share, and game title count are evidence 8GB is enough, but are totally ignored when they don't suit the ray tracing agenda.
According to some people here, 8GB is neeeevaaaaah NV's fault and objective evidence "doesn't count" because of reasons(tm). If you have others please let me know and I'll add them to the list. Cheers!

Oh wow, the usual flag of TLOU again....

I showed you screenshots with textures at high vs ultra, on my 4070ti and that at 4k. There is virtually no difference. At least nothing for a user to be worried about. The cost was a whopping 1.5GBs.

Still a compromise that the owner of the cheaper GPU does not need to make and that is the problem.

I only say they are good enough for their tiers and correct settings

If they were good enough for their tiers they would not require the user to make more compromises than lower tier offerings. Yet in some scenarios they do so clearly they have an unnecessary bottleneck.

Some very few scenarios to be exact, where at the end of the day, the card with the more gpu power, almost always wins, if you try to bring things to the playable goldilocks zone. I said from the start of the dispute, that it was not out of the question that in some games, there would be some elevation due to more vram. These are the vast minority though. I don't know how you elect governments in your countries, but in mine, the majority is what counts.

Feel free to go to gamegpu, since they have the most complete database, either you like it or not, grab all 1080p results of 2024, compare the 3060ti with the 3060 and tell me what you see.

I have big problems with Vram in ghost of tsushima. After 1-2hours of gameplay i ran out of Vram on my 4080super.Its because i use 4K(DLAA) with frame gen and frame gen need another 3+GB Vram in 4K to work properly. So after some time performance goes from 90fps to 50-60fps.Only fix is restart game or turn off frame gen.
So someone should create new topic: 16GB is not enough

They test it for 15sec in test scene. This game can take 13-14GB Vram after 2 hours play without Framegen. Those test for Vram are complete BS to be honest.
Precisely. Bigger bar better reviews are insufficient to evaluate hardware. Those of us that play the games, not just test them, have known this for a good number of years. It is best to wait for user feedback like yours, extended gameplay videos, and deep dives by a big channel, if the game gets one.

GPU temp 80C on 4060?
Not sure what's going on with that Storm X card. Palit isn't really a thing here in the U.S.

Pedro aka zWORMz tested the 4060 in that game too. If you enable frame gen without restarting the game, it's sometimes broken completely. After restart it is no better than DLSS alone but with extra lag. 8GB can't leverage FG in yet another game, one of the main selling points of the 40 series.

Unsurprisingly the 4060 was outperforming the 3060ti, a more expensive higher tier card. Day one driver optimization for 30 series not there?

Game patches should get things smoothed out. As the way it handles settings changes is nerfed. Seems to be a memory leak too? Heck, the textures look last gen, it can't be that.

3060ti tests Pedro did -

4060 -

Good call. I saw the small heatsink there of the gpu in the case and it got me wondering. Looking at the Palit website, it is a single fan card so that explains the high temps and fan speed. So a loud, small 4060 single fan card for $300. Reminds me of the cheap single $279 2060 cards Asus/Gigabyte put out (vs $350 2fan models) that did not get great reviews.

Another port, of a 4 year old game that is best to wait for another 6-12+ months for a cheaper price and bug fixes etc..

Thanks for looking that card up. Wow, it looks about like the ASRock Challenger ARC A380 I had...a $99 card. Indefensible to charge so much for 8GB and a cheesy little cooler like that.

EDIT: I love the full ray tracing line on the product page.

It's another game where RDNA 2 comes out of the gate strong. I'd like to see the vanilla RX 6700 tested. Does that extra 2GB get it over the hump at 1080? Game being new, hard to know from just extrapolating 8GB and 12GB data.

I double checked, I somehow got Ghost of Tsushima on PS4 years ago. Must have been one of those freebies in 2020 or '21. Its not PS+ because those installed games can't work now since I'm not a PS+ subscriber. Hmm, so $60 for this mess or free at 1080p or whatever rez the ps4 puts out at 30fps.

After that initial shader comp dip, the stats were great. VRAM kept climbing, so probably have to restart after an hour or 2 in the game's present state.
