Actually, I have an 8K7A+ already. I just was compelled to purchase a Rev. 1.1. to run an MP on I am hoping that the new board will allow a higher FSB than the other if I luck out and get a better week Northbridge.
BTW, the Palomino arrived today right before the mobo did, thanks Tako!! >>
Ah, good good. A new home for the Pally. Techno, you mentioned that you haven't had luck with high FSB on your 8K7A/+ thus far. Could the cause be attributed to something else by any chance? I say this because I have a rev. 1.0 I got from Newegg about month and a half ago which did not have the QA6 chip. I don't think QA6 has anything to do with FSB overclockability but....
Anyway, my 761 northbridge chip is a stepping B3 chip. I only tried it upto 167FSB to test if 1/5th PCI divisor worked. After juicing DDR voltage to 2.8V, it ran flawlessly with bench and everything. THe only problem I faced was that my NIC failed to function. THus, my belief is that 1/5th PCI is not functional at this point. Anyway, RAM permitting, my board seems capable of extreme FSB overclocking. But I don't use it. I keep mine at 133 right now. When 1/5th PCI 2/5th AGP becomes functional, I'll be moving to 166FSB....whenever that is.
Anyway, this B3 revision I believe is the second latest one out from AMD. AMD apparently released a C1 revision sometime in May 2001, but there isn't much difference (errata fix) from B3 so it shouldn't be a concern. But then again, later chips may have higher tolerance to FSB overclocking, just like how CPUs overclock better in later revisions. Good luck on your new board!
