System as follows:

8k7a mb
1.2 tbird/266
globalwin cak38 copper fan/sink
Crucial 256meg DDR
Antec SX830 case
Ibm 75gxp hd
Teac 8x burner scsi
Teac 32x reader scsi
Adaptec 2902 non boot scsi controller card
sb live
kingston ethernet (for dsl)
Elsa GeForce Erazor X 32meg
MS Intellimouse optical USB

Problem as follows:

Did win98 startup disc
put win95, win98 and se files on a cd for clean upgrade path with verifications.
installed 98, then SE, then put on the miniport, usb, and via ide drivers

Found mouse fine at first, but every time I exit out of windows without powering
down completely, upon restart, windows says no mouse found and then it looks
and finds an unidentified USB device with a red mark. I eliminate that line in system device mgr and hard reboot and sure enuff, it finds the mouse til next time you shut down without powering down.

Now I am also getting fatal errors, all on a clean win98se install.

Based on my system, do u guys have any optimal bios choices for me I may need to consider?

I'm reinstalling windows tonite to see if i can find the magic combo.

thanks

You need to enable legacy usb devices in the Bios, otherwise your mouse will not get recognixed unless the dmi pool is refreshed.:frown:

weird, i can't find that setting in my bios and it's the latest one as of yesterday

I did reinstall EVERYTHING
and after installing mouse drivers,
i plugged it into primary usb and
sure enuff, it said unknown usb device, mouse
was dark.......nothing.....

i was like DAMNED

i had both primary and secondary enabled in bios (on chip usbs)
and i had checked enable usb mouse,,,not keyboard....

then just on a whim, i tried it in the secondary usb port on the card
slot insert and BAMM it worked fine....hasn't messed up since

is it possible i have a bad usb primary port on the board? that doesn't
seem right.........

anyhow.....all is well now, just using secondary....but it still makes me mad

I am having nightmares with USB on this board as well. My USB Network Adapters do not work and my USB Compactflash reader does not work either. Every time I try to access it the computer reboots. As much as I don't want to, I'm going back to my Iwill KA266.

Good luck!
