8KHA+ second DIMM dead??

I've been working with a new board, everything working fine except I can't get it to pick up the second 256 meg stick of DDR. I've swapped the sticks around, tried reseating a dozen+ times with no luck. When I first got the board I had a heck of a time getting it to pick up the first stick. I finally read a post about really driving it in the slot and that worked but only for the firs stick.

Anyone else had this problem? Could it be a voltage problem?

It was a pain in the butt to seat both ram chips. I had to mess with the second slot as much as I did the first one. I am using Crucial PC2100 memory.

What was the trick to seating the second stick? I have two different sticks (I think one is Crucial, the other??) , either works fine in the first slot & neither works in the second slot. I've checked the depth and that looks fine. The pins seem to be aligned with the slot just fine. I've pressed hard as I dare with the board in the case.
Today I flashed the most recent bios based on a post by PCNut concerning this problem. That didn't help, glad it didn't hurt either.

Both of my sticks or RAM are Crucial. I don't remember what I did, I just remember it was kind of a pain in the buttocks to get it in. I flipped it around a couple of times thinking it was in wrong and all kinds of stuff.

Wht bout putting it on the 1st & 3rd slot ?. Different RAM huh ? Go to bios & set the RAM timing to "normal" first...just in case the other non-crucial RAM is a cheapo one.

I remember thinking I was gonna break my friggin board pushin in the second DIMM.

take the mobo out of the case and just lay it down on a newspaper to mount the sticks.
it could easily be that you have to push harder than you would have imagined.

When it was not detecting the first DIM, did it just beep and show a code of C1? Did you have any display at all?

Yes, C1 error until I got the first stick seated. Today I had to go back to Fry's to replace the MB & Case (power supply). I took the MB out and laid it flat on a table are reseated the 2nd DIMM. Figured I really had it in there and it would boot right up with 512meg. Surprised me when it was Black Flag Dead! PS would turn, no lights, nada. Fry's isn't interested in figuring out what's wrong, just in moving you through line, so I said give me a new rig.

I put the ram in on the table, really pressed it in. Assembled the whole rig again and whad-a-ya know, it recognized the 2nd stick but whit a checksum error. I went in the setup, checked it out and saved the settings. Haven't seen the 2nd DIMM since! Don't know what the problem was with the first MB or PS but the new one seems to be working fine - minus the second DIMM.
