8mb cache vs 2mb cache .. 60gb 4200rpm - Will I notice much difference?

TIA for any replies.


The reason I ask is because I sent my HP Centrino in for repair and they sent it back to me with a new hard drive but it was a 2mb cache instead the 8mb cache that was in it when I sent it to them..

Well, I got approval to send it back again...... and they will install the correct hard drive now.. but I really do not want to go through all the hassle of sending it in again and waiting for it to return again.. buncha BS

Is it worth it .. will the 8mb drive give me that much performance gain.. ??

From experience, yes! Launching apps and boot time will be a lot faster.

Depends on drive read ahead algorithms. Chances are, it will be of benefit. Although for a real big improvement, a Hitachi 7K60 or better isnt a bad start.

For a 4200rpm HD, the user can't feel the benefit of the larger cache size.

If it's I in your situation, I'd keep the 2MB HD if the whole process is going to be more than 1 week.

Agreed, I think that the slow rpm of the drive is more important than the drive cache. I would get at least a 5400 or a 7200.
