i want to be able to trasfer 8mm tape to dvd as well as my earlier post of mini dv. is there any software that can do both?? or do i have to buy them seprate??
Easy to do hardware wise - don't know about software. Hardware, put the 8mm tape into a VHS adapter, then do a direct VHS to DVD copy using any of a number of combo recorders. No computer needed that way.
Typical DVD authroing software will work with a multitude of video formats. More than likey as you capture your video to PC, it will be Mpeg2. You can set the pc to capture from 8mm (as corkyg stated) or mini-dv and make the resulting file a particular format. So one software package should be able to do both.
Goto ulead.com and download pinnacle studio demo or visit the above link for some freeware dvd authroing programs.

There are no adapters for 8mm to VHS. So the adapter idea won't work. There's VHS-C to VHS adapters but 8mm is a entirely different format.
My bad - you are correct! I have a few Video8 tapes left by my dad back in 92 - and I did transfer them to VHS - but I used his Sony camcorder as the player to a VHS VCR.
A venerable Video8 camcorder will probably do the job. Concur with the DVD burner.
And this may be a reasonjable alternative for a few select tapes:
