my gpu's are not getting work, help.... Say's waiting for idle or something like that.

Hey Lane42, welcome to the race seti man.

There is a chart somewhere that explains all this better but for now:

Waiting for idle means the slot(s) is waiting for your computer to go idle before crunching. Set it to medium and the cpu slot will work even while you work and the gpu will wait till the computer is idle. Set to full and all slots will work all the time. You will get some herky jerky if you work while set to full.

I have set all my full-time crunchers to full. My main computer I set to medium most of the time so I can use it normally.

Had a slight hiccup in my production due to a 5 hour power outage caused by freezing rain.

Hi all racers, I see that the production continues ...
Usually some rebalancing is needed after the PrimeGrid-race, but it does not hurt to wait until all folders have been active for 24 - 48 hours.
Also remember, that PCTC2 (= paulnt04) for some reason has high production every 2½ - 3 days ...
I´ll be looking in every 2 - 4 days, between that I may not have internet connection ...
Fold on, and a very Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it, and a wonderful Holiday Season to all!

I just installed it about 5 minutes ago under the name deerslayer and team 198. I was about to ask how long it takes to show progress but I just looked and it says 1.06% now. I was getting worried.

I'll go fire up the old rig and get it going too. I just put this one together last week and I want to see how it handles the load as far as temps.

Edit: My GPU (Radeon HD87700 GHZ) says paused waiting for idle. Way back when I was active in distributed computing this GPU crunching didn't exist. Should it have started by now? Am I missing something?

deerslayer, see this posted by Pokey. Open up FAHControl and move folding "slider all the way to the right to get it going.

Also, make sure you get a passkey: http://folding.stanford.edu/home/faq/faq-passkey/

I don't recognize your ATI radeon model number. Is that a typo?

I'm not sure how many ppd that card will produce. Maybe some of the guys crunching with ATI cards can help you out.

Welcome to the race deerslayer!

I'll add you to the thinkers team since we are 1.3 million points down.

Most of my other hardware is ancient. The processor I upgraded from was a X2 5200+ that I robbed from a computer that supposedly had a dead motherboard. Getting married and having kids really put a damper on my computer building.

The p7627 core 15 WUs are in beta right now so if you switch to advanced you should get the core 8900 WUs. Of course, any day now they may push the p7627 beta project to advanced.

Log in to the folding forum and follow this thread.
So I switched to advanced, and rebooted to be sure... Still no ZETA:

guys how do i disable CPU Folding so that only my dual 7970s fold?
Go into "Configure" and then "Slots" and remove the CPU.

Edit: Or you could just right click the CPU in the Folding Slots section and select Finish. It will finish the current WU and not start another until you right click and select Fold.

oops...already deleted it...though i'm sure there's a way to add it back if i ever decide to Fold on the CPU.

Most of us are running client-type advanced:

Open FAHControl
click on the configure button up on top
click on the slots tab
highlight the gpu slot and then choose edit
scroll down to the "extra slot options"
click on "add"

for name: client-type
for value: advanced

Hit OK and then Save the configuration

Also make sure the "folding power" slider is moved to "full"

hey Doc, what does running client-type advanced do? i went ahead and set my GPU slots up that way, but i was getting work before i did that anyways...

also, how much "CPU" must be allocated to the handling of 2 P8900 tasks (1 running on each 7970)? i'm assuming not much b/c i i've limited BOINC project CPU consumption to 7 of 8 threads, leaving 1 thread free for FAH, and both GPUs are running just fine with a constant 95-97% utilization.

ho, and also, do any of you check the core locking (CPU affinity locking) box under the advanced tab in the configuration menu?

Setting GPU to advanced increases the chance for getting core 17 WUs, although p8900s are supposed to be released as standard WUs. Setting to advanced is the only way I get WUs on linux.

A full CPU core/logical core is only needed for Nvidia cards and OpenCL WUs. The ATI cards use much less CPU for OpenCL WUs.

Sunny129, are you joining the race??

I have been playing around with Linux Mint a little to see what it is like, and I have a question(s)..............

In reading up on the FAHClient, it sounds like with Linux "a" gpu slot is in beta. Does that mean it can only handle one gpu? Or can it handle multiple gpu slots?

Also, it appears that instead of a unified installer, you must download the Client and install it first (as a service) and then download and install the FAHControl. Any issues to look out for there?

My interest is in figuring out the Linux side of things............()

I'm not sure if linux can handle more than one GPU. You may want to search the folding forum.

No issues with intalling the client first and then FAHControl second in linux mint.

Estimated PPD on the FAHControl window shows 21,106.

For my CPU it shows 6,825 estimated....

yup...just confirmed it by allowing BOINC to use all 8 CPU threads (1 BOINC task per thread) and my GPU utilization dropped off substantially on both GPUs...so despite ATI OpenCL FAH tasks requiring very little CPU, a single BOINC CPU task consumes enough of a single thread to starve FAH of what little CPU it needs for ATI OpenCL GPU tasks. i'll just let BOINC run 7 CPU tasks at a time and leave the 8th CPU thread free for GPU Folding.

...and yes, i've joined the race, though i'm allowing a fellow TeAm member to borg one of my hosts (i'm Folding under that member's name and pass key) in return for some future borging on one of his machines, which is why you don't see may name anywhere in the TeAm stats right now...also, i made sure to join team #198. i'm doing this as much for my fellow TeAm members as i am for the cause, for as many of you know, i hardly ever join races unless 1) they involve the projects i focus on, or 2) i get a plea to join from a fellow TeAm member and i'm in a position to accommodate.

Ok Sunny129, that's fine with me. Welcome to the race in an indirect way I guess! :hmm:

Now if Insidious were here we'd see a lot more of these :whiste: and some trash talk to boot.

To the new racers with Nvidia cards: The latest nvidia drivers show good OpenCL folding performance for the GTX780 and higher cards. However, the older cards, GTX6XX and earlier take a big hit in performance with the latest drivers. If you go back to dirver version 327.23 drivers or earlier, you will maximize your performance for the "older" cards.
