Yay, I'm a Scientist! I'm not a real doctor. I have a bachelor's degree...in computer science!

So the Linux V7 client detects the GPU, but there's no Linux GPU work? Back to the V6 client on Wine.

I think I found what I need to get the V7 GPU client working:
PantherX said:
Please note that to set the client-type as advanced, open Advanced Control (AKA FAHControl) -> Configure -> Slots Tab -> GPU -> Under the Extra slot Options, enter the following:
Name: client-type
Value: advanced
But I'm going to wait until this current WU is more done before trying it.

Installed the new client on the 7950 computer so it would be ready.
Am running a test WU on GPU - a p8900, it is 4:20 per frame and says 93K ppd.

Question: How soon does the WU have to be completed to get the Quick Completion Bonus?
It will be done in a few hours, can I stop it and restart it just before the race start time and still get full bonus?

The bonus increases the faster you return the WU.

The v6 client doesn't get bonus points but gets more base points. So if you want to save up WUs or have a slow GPU, the v6 client may be better.

Damn. I didn't get 4 of my crunchers set up and I'm going on a business trip today. When I get back... the GAME WILL BE ON.

Well, TeAm-mates, the race has started. The starting stats are published.
I'll post stats once a day (when ever I can) until December 18th, after that date an other stats wizard takes over.
Lets get foldin'!

Is it too late to join?
I've got a 1035T? (2.7Ghz) AMD hex-core, and a pair of 7790 1GB GDDR5 cards.

Not sure I've got everything set up right though. Seems to be going mighty slow. 10 minutes crunching, and the GPUs haven't budged 1% I don't think. Says the GPU WUs are 6000 points. CPU is using a4 core, says 200 base points, and 11 hours to completion.

Edit: Well, after a few frames, it was estimating I was getting around 80K PPD.

But the box just BSOD'ed and rebooted, after a 0x0116 error. Which is a video TDR timeout failure reboot. I've also had a video driver recovery since then.

The two R7790 cards are brand new, just took them out of their boxes last night and installed them.

CoreTemp and HWmonitor claim CPU core temps are 32C, and HWM lists only a single video card, with temps of 62C.

Voltages in HWM also look fine.

I'm using the newest ATI beta drivers, 13.11beta4. Are those unstable for F@H?

Power supply is Antec EarthWatts 650W by Delta. It powered a Q6600 @ 3.6 and two GTX460 cards during a previous F@H race. The 7790 only has a single 6-pin power plug, whereas the GTX460 cards each had two.

Well, Murphy’s law…………… I had a hard drive crash right after the race started.

Fortunately my hoard of computer parts contained a drive I could use. And I use the word hoard loosely since my sickness is such that when my son calls and say’s: “dad, you wouldn’t happen to have a (insert part name) laying around that I could have?” I say: “I think I have one downstairs, come on over and get it.”

So after one format, win7 install, and 137 updates later this one is back up and running.

well, my dual 5570's keep getting 8101's and it can't make the bonus, and my dual 5639's have decided to go south, so I am in deep do-do for now. 350k ppd instead of 500k

Thanks for the stats, Peter!

Looks like we've got a challenge Thinkers!

I suspect MarkFW will have a better day 2 in the stats. :whiste:

I went to microcenter this last weekend to check out a couple of open box specials on EVGA GTX780. Instead, I came home with a new PNY GTX780Ti. I should not be allowed to go there unsupervised.

2880 shaders
GPU clock: 876 MHz
GPU boost clock: 928 MHz

For 300 frames of P8900 WU:

Avg. Time / Frame : 00:02:52 - 173,540.7 PPD

For 300 frames of P7810 WU:

Avg. Time / Frame : 00:01:27 - 172,051.0 PPD

Hi Scientists (or Thinkers if you want to help a fellow folder out )-
Need a bit of advice. Got approximately $100 or so to spend on a new GPU. Any suggestions? Got a GTS450 and an old GT240 (not in the race) currently. 7790 seems to be around that price range. How will that do folding? I've seen a few deals where the 7850 drops into the just over $100 range. I'm guessing that will do better than the 7790, but how is the power efficiency on that? There's also the 650 series on the Nvidia side of things. Thanks.

I think AMD is now ahead of nVidia in F@H. VirtualLarry estimated his production above - probably with two 7790s, and maybe with his CPU included as well:
Well, after a few frames, it was estimating I was getting around 80K PPD.
So I'd guess somewhere around 30kppd for one on its own. Some 7850s also have only one power plug, so they should be fairly efficient.

On the nVidia side, My GTX460 alone is getting 15kppd on the v7 client, but also takes a CPU core here on Linux. Not sure if that happens in Windows or not. I'd expect a GTS450 to get maybe 6kppd on the v6 client, and less on v7.

LOL, nice.

I have a regular 780 sitting on a truck right now on it's way to me. I considered getting 2 but got a new 27" 1440p monitor instead.

I would love to know the difference between a regular 780 (950 mhz or so) vs the 780ti. biodoc says the 780ti gets ~170k ppd
