You can get all the in-game currency you want selling PLEX, which is bought with real money. Well, within reason. You might flood the market if you try to sell too much at one time.
In Ultima Online, every object in the game was given a value and in theory could be destroyed.
The made Lord British and his castle majorly fortified. They didn't bank on the huge group of players that allied together to storm that castle.
They ended up sacking it.

Its all bought with in game money. The in game money has a real life conversion value of about 20 dollars per 500 million isk give or take.
