the 6s moved to a stronger aluminum and they added some strengthening to the mold to resist bending, its like 2 min of R&D

that's what made the weight go up slightly

Most of the reviews said the additional weight came from thicker glass due to force touch.

http://www.theverge.com/2015/9/12/9315471/iphone-6s-new-aluminum-doesnt-make-phone-heavier

According to Apple, the aluminum in the 6S Plus only weighs 2 grams more than the aluminum in its predecessor.

It turns out the extra heft comes almost solely from that new 3D Touch display. The display assembly now weighs over twice as much as before. In the 6, the display used to weigh 12 grams — it now weighs 29 grams

Every metal frame will bend with enough force. The question is as usual a matter of degree and it seem like Huawei and Google opted for a soft material for the 6P not unlike last years iPhones. The moral of the story is that users need to take some care carrying the phone around and the phone makers should use stronger material. (duh)

I expect to see some bent 6Ps in the wild.. unbeknownst to the owners.

im actually wondering about this. lots of women carry their phone in the back pocket men do not. and TBH I see the nexus 6p not being used by as many women as the iphone is. may be a bit before we see a bent one from normal use

well my first attempt at unlocking, decrypting, installing TWRP went well, unfortunately ended up with a lot of ggogle services force closures and that annoying meesage on boot that my system cannot be verified please lock.

Tried installing n6pangler rom from XDA but somehow the radio did not work. I think the simple days of flashing just the rom maybe the gaps is over. Now you have to flash or fastboot flash radios, boot img ect each time you want to change roms.

Decided to go back to stock and relock my phone using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928

at least I am on the latest build MDB08M from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?hl=en

I think waiting a few month or two until a worthy rom comes up and everything is hashed out is prudent.

Native wifi hotspot works anyway on the stock rom (on verizon unlimited) which was my primary concern.

Wanted root to use Titanium back up and restore my save games
Helium sort of works not transfer some off the save files.

good luck and happy tinkering

Can't you just root without installing TWRP? It's always been possible in the past; there shouldn't be a reason you MUST install a custom ROM and recovery.

Yah. That is what I have done to all my Nexuses. Root access only with stock ROM, and no custom recovery.

P.S. Why are people so against encryption? Quite a few of people @XDA are interested in it and actually disable decryption. It is strange because I see little benefit (performance or otherwise) of doing so.

If the 6P is like the 6 (and I am guessing it is), getting root is a little bit more involved in Android M. You have to flash a modified boot.img and then flash SuperSU from TWRP. That is assuming you are just looking for root and not trying to flash a custom kernel and/or ROM.

If there is another, easier way I have not seen it.

I believe a lot of the custom ROMs require a decrypted phone.

So it's new to Marshmallow? Well, usually they figure out easier ways after a couple months from a new Android release. I recall similar steps for previous versions when they first came out and then easier ways appeared later.

The Nexus 6 may have made a bad impression. I believe it did not have hardware encryption, so there was performance loss. The 6P does not have this issue.

The 6P also does not have hardware encryption.

It's just using better software encryption.

From what I have read at XDA, there is very little if any noticeable performance hit from running the N6 encrypted. I have run mine both ways and I can't see a bit of difference. The only reason I ever decrypted was to try a custom ROM, but since I flashed the M build from Google I am back to an encrypted phone.

You are correct. The N6 uses software encryption only. That's part of why it is so easy to get rid of.

I think Google mastered the animation to hide perceived lags. On my "Ice" 5X, I see frame drops all over the places but they are not as annoying as they used to be on pre-Marshmallow devices.

Men's skinny jeans. Dudes now wear tight pants and put it in their front pocket that bends when they sit.

Damn hipsters.

i always change all the 3 (animation) scale to 0.25x or 0.5x (lowest available). 0x is too annoying because things just jump around without animation

don't care about visible lag, just care about getting things done/completed as quickly

Time to replace my Nexus 4 (which has been acting up a lot lately) - just ordered a 32GB 5x in black: estimated delivery is sometime mid-next week. Apparently, I also had some kind of offer saved to my Amex card and got $10 off (at least based on the e-mail I just saw from Amex).

I'm noticing the autofocus is kind of crappy on the 6P, you have to tap to focus to get any decent focus. I'm not even sure it auto focuses without you tapping, it's pretty blurry unless you tap to focus. A circle comes up if you move around the camera, but it doesn't seem to focus anywhere near as well as tapping, maybe that's just for exposure. I'm not too familiar with Google's camera app so I'm not sure. One other thing I've noticed is that burst mode seems really fast, at least with HDR+ off, I held down the camera button for maybe a second or two and got 9 shots. I think you have to turn off smart burst to get this, otherwise it chooses the one it thinks is best. If you turn off smart burst it still puts a little start on the shot that it thinks is best anyway so that's pretty nice.

I feel like the 5X is a touch overpriced for the quality. They should have done 32GB at $380, and 64GB at $430.
