Just noticed something pretty cool, not sure if this was in lollipop or not, but when you swipe the notification shade in landscape mode it swipes down where you actually swipe your finger, not just in the center of the screen. This is pretty nice as it puts the shade in easy range of the finger you swiped with.

Edit: Well must have been a bug...was doing it in the camera app but now it doesn't seem to be happening at all, oh well.

Edit 2: Well I found out it works if I go to the camera with the double power button press, weird that the notification shade behavior would change there and no where else.

That's a marshmallow thing. I saw that when I updated my Nexus 9 to 6.0.

Note that if you're getting those cheap ebay Galaxy S6/edge, it would be the international version, and therefore if the model does receive any updates, it will be way faster than the US carrier version

Yes, the models are the international G920I for $430 (currently sold out) of G925I (Edge) for $500.

Horrible idea to buy the s6 this close to the next one, rumor has it the s7 may be announced in Jan since the s6 was a flop. Price will just steady drop

Nexus 5X 32GB is more overpriced at $430 than Galaxy S6, no?
I do plan to wait a bit, but $430 seems like a good price.

I wouldnt spend that much on an international that wouldnt have any warranty, you could get a used one for probably 350 or so. I have bought a couple used at that price. Samsung will honor their warranties without a receipt on US devices I know

No warranty is a deal breaker for some people, but there's merit for getting those international version. First is what I mentioned above, updates will most definitely come faster, they're brand new in the box and factory unlocked, and they're completely free of any kind of US carriers bloatware. Also, I *think* the LTE bandwidths available may have more compatibility with international carriers. This is important for frequent travelers or people like my family who visit their home country a lot.

I bought an S6 for my wife the first time it dropped down to $430 from monoprice on eBay (with 4x or 5x eBay bucks back, I forget, so that's about $30-$40 or so back), maybe about ~3 months ago. If I'm looking right now, it's probably not an instabuy, but it was back then.

Yep some starting at 350 on swappa, you can even try to haggle on there

senseamp is looking at this model.

Nexuses will have a special place in our collective minds thus it is really difficult to compare them with other Android phones. I have little doubt that if they were called and sold as "LG V5 Mega Ultra Turbo" and "Huawei Honor Glory Freedom 6," no one would have given a second look at the exact same hardware.

Having said that, my current preference would be in this order.

S6 Edge+ > Nexus 6P > Note 5 > S6 > Nexus 5X > S6 Edge

The Nexus 6P's place is a bit tentative; Waiting on user reviews. I do not expect it to change, though.

Glad I didn't order the 6P, had a chance to try it, and it's way too big.
5X I am still TBD, but it doesn't seem as good of a package as the S6 at same price, but there is warranty issue, and also no VoLTE and GSM 1700 band on T-mobile. I am going to think about whether that matters and wait a little bit and see what deals develop on the Tmo version. But 5X is too expensive for build and spec IMO, relative to the competition.

I'm not sure I'm as convinced that the 5X is overpriced as I am that the 6P is slightly underpriced.

I think the G4 is about the closest comparison to the 5X. Same processor. Close to the same physical dimensions. Both made by LG. The G4 has a better screen, removable battery, SD card, a better camera and better speakers.

5X has a fingerprint reader, straight up Android, longer update support, comes factory unlocked and able to be taken to almost any major carrier in the US, and it supports Google's Project Fi if that is of any value to you.

I have both phones sitting in front of me right now. The 5X is easier to use, the fingerprint reader is worth an immeasurable amount of money, and I'm looking at a $25 a month bill for Project Fi.

That's half the price of my T-Mobile plan with a vastly superior wifi calling platform which is very important to me given the black hole of cellular reception I usually work in.

But the G4 has a much better camera, more battery life, and that SD slot is very handy for loading it up with movies and music.

My G4 is going on swappa later tonight.

Price curve is probably going to be much slower, even when the S7 launches. Sure in 3-4 months it might be $390 if not using it for that time is worth the additional 10%.

The intl version will get Marshmallow first which is a plus - the first international S5s starting getting Lollipop in December of last year so for those who can wait maybe 3 months for Marshmallow, you do get more for your money IMO. The S6 in particular with it's not great standby battery life seems like it'll really benefit from 6.0.

I wouldn't have qualms about buying it since Monoprice has a refund window and all the phones I've bought have either worked perfectly or had issues right away. The one weak point I suppse is the usb port though wireless charging does help reduce wear on that. I probably plug in my Note 5 once or twice a week when I need a fast top up.

I got my official delay email from google last night. Ordered on 9/30 64g Frost and the eta was nov. 5-9. Now its 7-14.

With new phones coming out, I might end up getting one of those.

So has doze been pretty inconsistent for anyone else? For me it seems to work half the time, I particularly notice it at night. I usually don't plug in my phone at night since I have it plugged in all day, last night my phone lost 8-9% while I was sleeping which is pretty terrible. Looking at the battery it looks like it was in doze mode for a while and then the battery just started draining at one point. It wasn't waking up or anything according to the battery info and the highest battery draining item showing was audible which I listened to before I went to bed so it wasn't that. Kind of annoying that for all of the great stuff on this phone one of the big features doesn't seem to work right. I may root my phone just to see what's happening here, if I keep having problems with the battery life I may just end up returning the phone, but hopefully it's something that can be easily fixed.

Encryption is part of the original image. The only way to get rid of it is to root and go with a non-encrypted custom ROM.

not talking about encryption.

you simply need to turn off the lock screen pin and then re-enable it and then choose not to use password on boot

why you cant just turn that off directly is dumb

Do you guys think any of these phones are worth replacing the note 4 with? In your own personal opinions.

Loving this phone except for only one thing. The headphone output is not loud enough. Just like the Nexus 6. Oye Google. We use our phones now to replace two things - a camera and an mp3 player. You got the camera right, would it be so hard to get the other one right? It's obvious stuff.

It should've asked you when you set up your lock screen PIN/Password. I just wiped my OPO last week and installed a fresh CM12.1 ROM and I had the same experience. Same experience also when I unboxed my 6P and implemented a password.

You probably clicked past that screen or whatever. There's too many prompts today that if you mess one up you're screwed.

The reviews are all good from what I'm reading, the 6P is being called the best Android phone right now, the 5X is in a crowded field, but if you want a device that gets the fastest updates, I wouldn't hesitate, on either nexus.
