It should've asked you when you set up your lock screen PIN/Password. I just wiped my OPO last week and installed a fresh CM12.1 ROM and I had the same experience. Same experience also when I unboxed my 6P and implemented a password.

You probably clicked past that screen or whatever. There's too many prompts today that if you mess one up you're screwed.

yea i must have just hit OK on initial setup when that came up, odd that you only see the option when setting a pin and you cant just turn it off normally

Has anyone upgraded from N6 to N6P? One thing I absolutely love about the Motorola phone is its Radio. I have T-Mobile and at work nobody besides people who use Nexus 5/6 gets any signal, we Nexus users enjoy crystal clear calls and LTE. How is the radio on the 6P? Never heard of Huawei before, I hope they are as good as Motorola. I am looking for user experience, not snippets from paid reviews.

i should know in about a week

Anyone? any updates yet on the radio/antenna/signal quality?

Anandtech Google Nexus 5X Review

I agree with the 5X's low light camera ability but surprised that they didn't bash the camera app. Camera app is so laggy and buggy. I'm also forced to reboot it often when taking pics b/c the camera app won't connect to the camera.

Just a heads up to anyone who is waiting for their 6p. If you want to add Nexus protect, you have to cancel your order or return your phone, and reorder with nexus protect.

The camera app is laggy? The only laggy part I found was switching to the front camera. My personal complaints about the Google Camera App are as follows:

  • The AF indicator is absolute bullshit. How do I know its achieved focus or failed to find focus. The old AOSP camera of showing green or red made more sense. This is critical with closeup shots where I'm unsure if the camera has achieved AF or if its struggling. Sometimes its hard to tell based on the sharpness whether its there or almost there.
  • The shutter sound needs a real click.
  • The lack of adjustment for Exposure Compensation is disappointing. Since iOS8, the drag feature is extremely useful. Instead I just keep tapping around the screen trying to figure out when the metering will meter to something I like.
  • Burst mode is god awful. Look at how iOS does it. The shutter sound click makes it distinct so you know its shooting 10 fps like a machine gun. Also the ability to review burst mode pictures by dragging across a bar like a video to go frame by frame is very nice. In Google Photos you just scroll picture to picture--useless.

Not sure I understand what you are asking for here. Are you wanting to change the metering mode the camera is using or are you looking for exposure compensation? If it is the latter, you can have EC but you need to toggle the "manual exposure" setting on in the advanced options.

I'm not sure why Google is calling that manual exposure honestly but there it is.

It sounds like what you are wanting is exposure lock, which is something different altogether.

You mentioning burst mode must mean you're talking about the 6P and not the 5X. Just today after using Snapchat(which is laggy as hell too), the camera disconnected from the camera app just giving me a black screen forcing me to reboot the phone.

Sunday night while trail running with my dogs, I had runkeeper running and I stopped on a few occasions to take pics. Several times, the camera wouldn't even allow me to take a pic or would take a pic only not to process and create a pic. Then finally disconnecting from the camera app, not allowing me to take a pic til we got back to the car and I rebooted the phone.

Never had any of these issue with my Nexus 5.

edit - just got home and new running shoes were delivered by Amazon. Took a pic of the shoes with no other apps open, the camera supposedly takes a pic and shows it in the sneak preview circle, I click on the sneak preview circle to see the pic, no pic. Yes, the camera app sucks big time.

I did not see burst mode in the stock camera app. Am I missing it?

My 5X has done the same thing. Go to open the camera and just a black screen. Can't take pictures. Only fixed by a reboot which is about a 3 minute process. Sucks. Camera takes okay pictures, but the entire camera experience is a huge step backwards from my G4 which was one of the best cameras I've used on a smartphone.

That definitely sucks about the camera on the 5X, I would have thought more reviews would have mentioned it.

For burst mode on the 6P, it has "smart burst" enabled by default, which picks the best out of the burst you take and saves that one. If you go into settings and turn off smart burst then you can see every shot from the burst. I believe it still marks the shot it thinks is the best from the burst, when I've tried it one of the pictures is marked with a star out of the burst.

My 6p just came in. Volume and pictures seem to work well for me.

VashHT, did you get the frost too?

I just got my 5X yesterday. I haven't played with the camera that much, but the app and picture taking seems to work fine.

I received my Graphite 64gb on Monday night.

After installing all my apps and setting up the phone, its really nice. First full day (yesterday) my battery life was not so good (coming from iphone 6+), I think mainly because I was showing a lot of people it and using it more than usual. I'll see how it spans out for the next few days.

Does anyone know if there are any apps that take advantage of this screen res or does it just upscale? The ones I noticed first are Outlook and NFL Fantasy apps..they use more screen real estate than their iOS versions.

Also does the ambient display work for you guys normally? I never see it come on. I have the pulse light notification on and a pebble smartwatch....maybe these interfere with it?

Not sure, but if you have a Pebble, why use Ambient Display? I believe it hurts standby battery life, at least it did on the Nexus 6.

Usually when i'm at home I take off my watch and keep my phone on me vs the opposite at my work. I'll turn it off tomorrow morning and see if it makes a difference.

Yeah I got a frost 128gb, I'm pretty happy with it so far. My battery life seems to have gotten a bit better, when I first got it google services was eating up a lot of battery but it's lowered quite a bit now, maybe it was just the initial setup but android phones always seem to take a few days or so for the battery life to level out for me.

I charged my phone too full yesterday afternoon and I am still at 50%. It's been good for me.

on my 128GB graphite 6P

getting 4 hour SOT + 20 hour device on (or ~6-hour SOT and 8 hour device on).... definitely enough for my daily work commute load, but not enough for my heavy weekend usage

doze+app standby seems to be working properly

(my nexus 5 was getting something like 2 hour SOT with 8 hour device-on... so I"m happy with double the battery life)

got the RavPower 20100mAh type-C charger.... seems to charge the same rate as the USB charger (slightly over 1% per minute), really great compared to my nexus 5 external-battery charging

What do people think of the back glass "spontaneously" breaking on the 6P? Personally I'm a bit skeptical about the whole thing, chance are these people put their phone down harder than they thought, and since the glass hump is the highest part on the back it absorbed all of the pressure. I guess I'll find out soon enough since it's getting really cold around here, but I remember when people thought it was going to happen to the nexus 4 thanks to an early story from droidlife but I had mine for 2 years and it never happened to me.
