Is it painted or anodized black/white? I thought you can't anodize white? Is Silver version the natural Al color or silver paint?

I guess the white finish costs more than black/silver. There really is no other reason that I can think of.

Back on to the 5X: Its display is wonderful. I do not think LCD can get much better than this in terms of color accuracy. Great gray scale accuracy as well, no clipping going on at the end of either spectrum (black or white). Auto-brightness is well done without abruptness.

As for some nitpicking, its black level could have been better. It will not compete with AMOLED in that regard but I have seen better blacks on LCDs before. At certain angles/brightness, I sense a tiny hint of red on white backgrounds; In general red sub-pixels seem more prominent than blue or green ones. It may be an individual variation of the panel, or it could be the way it was calibrated. And some folks may not like its warmer white point, especially when viewed side by side with other phones/tablets' cooler screens.

I have yet to compare screen reflection of the 5X with other LCD screens.

Also I agree with vi edit that the fingerprint scanner is in an excellent position. And I like Google's nice little touch which requires manual PIN entry upon system (re)boot.

The 6P comes with both a C->C and C->A. The 5X only has the C->C.

You know, I bought a C->A adapter (a la USB OTG cable) with the phone thinking it will do the job. Then I realized that I had no A to A cable or gender changer, without which I had no way to connect the phone to the PC using USB. I got angry at myself first then at Google, in that order. :biggrin:

BTW - Amazon's free same-day delivery actually delivered an adapter and stuff the same day. Color me impressed.

My order went processing today, wonder if it will ship today or Monday, Monday is my originally scheduled date so I guess the estimate was pretty good. I ordered a 128gb frost so I guess not all of them were delayed.

Holy hell, that's terrible D:

so the scratching thing is not a super shocking. you will see similar results on other phones using the same glass scratching it with those tips

as for the crack that pops in, that is typical for how strengthened glass fails. its the same as your windshield which is tempered (strengthened) soda lime glass. the chips and scratches in it don't cause a total failure until some external stress is applied which causes crack migration and "pops" in a scratch. Car windows are laminates however so they don't show the same response. If you look up what you can about other strengthened glasses you will see this "delayed" failure is normal when certain conditions are met, mostly around size and depth of scratch and how they relate to the exact strengthening method used

as for bending - well it cantilevers off the battery, same thing the ip6 did

stop making phones so thin and they wont be so weak - thicker everything is stronger

and who the hell takes a flame to their phone

Looks like Aluminium is the one to get, since if you scratch it, scratch will be same color as the phone. I think the bending is a result of having a cracked screen.

This happens every year though. Let's stop making excuses for Google and accept that they cannot execute on the operations side effectively.
Yea I was expecting them to be in stock all the time now since they are not going to the carriers. I'm not getting one but I had a chance to, I'm still happy with the 6.

Has anyone upgraded from N6 to N6P? One thing I absolutely love about the Motorola phone is its Radio. I have T-Mobile and at work nobody besides people who use Nexus 5/6 gets any signal, we Nexus users enjoy crystal clear calls and LTE. How is the radio on the 6P? Never heard of Huawei before, I hope they are as good as Motorola. I am looking for user experience, not snippets from paid reviews.

No one take this as a negative... But my 5X is the closest feeling Android device I've had so far that "feels" like an iPhone. The screen warth, text size, response and just shape in general feels like a large iPhone to me.

I've had a moto x, droid turbo, lg g2 and g4, a note II, and an S6. This phone just has some other vibe to it that none of the others have.

It's really hard to explain. It's not a bad thing at all. Ios is still the benchmark in mobile os's from an experience standpoint. This is the first Android I've used that felt like it was meant to go toe toe use wise.

It has been a long time that I used mobile Chrome and I am perplexed by its (enter a negative adjective) performance, even on a Nexus device. I use Samsung's browser on the S6 and a combination of Opera/Lightning+ browser on other phones, and they all perform better than Chrome. Is it me or does anyone experience the same?

Chrome Mobile has almost always been inferior for me in performance and usability. I never understood why people liked it until I had to use mobile Safari for an extended tilt but that's a low bar to clear.

My 6P was delivered yesterday about a week ahead of schedule.

The size will take some getting used to, but so far I absolutely love everything about it.

Sadly I have to retract my earlier evaluations on the display of the 5X. I still maintain that this is a great display but it is not really one of the best displays as I made it sound to be. I hope to spell it out better later, but to quickly summarize;

Contrast low
Brightness loss large at angles
Vertical tilt -> green tint
Horizontal tilt -> blue tint

It appears that Google picked a panel that is not exactly the top of the line, then did the best it could to calibrate it. Again, I hasten to repeat that this is a great display with excellent color accuracy. But there are other areas where it is lacking.

On the other hand, the battery life has been great so far with light usage. Last night I ran Geekbench battery test and it lasted 8 hours (LTE on), which was astounding probably run on A53s. The S6 lasted 7-ish hours when I ran the same test.

Chrome Mobile has almost always been inferior for me in performance and usability. I never understood why people liked it until I had to use mobile Safari for an extended tilt but that's a low bar to clear.

It is odd. One would think Google were at the best position to optimize a browser for Android.
