Got my 6P this morning and transferred everything over from my 5X. I'm really liking it. While waiting for it to install things, I used my 5X to use Snapchat, took minutes for the lag to allow me to take a pic, add some text and send something out. 6p, no lag or anything and Snapchat acts like it does on my old Nexus 5.

Thinner than the 5X which is nice and have already gotten used to the size.

So far, so good.

Oh, you should just refuse the shipment or simply return it while you can. Flipping is a hassle.

I used to feel that way too. But, I used Swappa several months ago to sell a phone... sold in one day in an absolutely seamless experience.

I refused the shipment, and man it's a hassle.
The driver dropped it off and left, I had to go drop it off at UPS to refuse it. And they don't give you any receipt. You have to wait till end of day for it to show up in tracking that you refused it. So you sit there wondering if it's going to get lost and you won't be able to prove you returned it. Still waiting for B&H refund, it takes them 5 business days after it's delivered to process it as returned.
I think I would just flip it next time. If I kept the $25 gift card, effectively it would be $325 no tax 32GB 5X. The current best price is $379 with $20 card from them. One issue with flipping now though is in this area a lot of Google employees got them as gifts, so market may be pretty crowded.

fyi - Nexus 5X and 6P have been reduced by $50 thru Dec 30th and free overnight shipping(I'm guessing up til Xmas) at the Google Store

I was able to get a $50 credit back to my card by calling them up on my Nexus 6P purchase last week.

Battery benchmarks are kinda worthless. The Galaxy S6 is notorious for having a TERRIBLE battery in real life useage (typically 2.5 - 3 hours SOT)... The 6p typically gets 4-5 SOT. This has been reported by lots of former S6 users who moved to the 6p.

Edit: Actually, with 6.0.1, a lot of users are reporting 5-6 hours SOT. Sadly, i'm not one of these users and may need to re-image my phone to get this SOT bump.

Yeah, I've never really trusted Anand's most likely repeatable but pretty much meaningless to real life battery benchmarks ever since I purchased the HTC One X based on their review and received closer to half of the reviewed battery life.

The problem with any battery benchmark is that its likely not realistic. Perhaps they should re-do their battery tests to be more representative of real world use. Other observations/thoughts:

  • Do these tests actually test for touch input? Remember Project Butter causes a touch boost in CPU frequency and therefore drains more power if you're touching your phone more. That could affect battery life significantly.
  • I know Anandtech has its reasons for using 200 nits for apples to apples testing, but given that most users use adaptive brightness, what about testing all phones on adaptive but in a controlled lightbox (e.g simulating office lighting). The reason I suggest this is because different phones have different calibration curves for brightness. The Nexus 5 did really well relative to phones in 2013 in Anandtech's tests but most users report mediocre battery. Why? If you look at XDA there's tons of threads about using Lux and the backlight being too bright and having to cut the brightness down. So while having a fixed brightness showed it to perform decently, real world experiences ended up having most users experience a screen that was brighter than average and therefore draining more battery than average.
  • I question the LTE test. The reviewer noted that different reviewers have done the test in the past and had different reception. Isn't that all sorts of red flags? I can do a battery test at the office (poor reception) and have totally different run times than at home (great reception). The fact that this isn't a very well controlled test concerns me.
I'm not saying Anandtech sucks... they're quite good and better than most sites, but there are certain concerns behind these tests. No one should take their test only and treat it as the definitive benchmark of battery. I personally like GSM Arena as well because they test for idle drain. The N4 was relatively decent on Anandtech but the Endurance Rating on GSM Arena was absolute trash. This was completely consistent with my experiences--the off SoC modem caused excessive wakelocks such that I would get drain in the 4-5% / hour region. Throw in the fact that 3G radios are inefficient, and yeah, you get extra drain. A similarly configured Nexus 5 would hover around 1% / hour drain only.

The best bet is to make sense of multiple sites' data to accurately judge a phone. But so far Anandtech seems to reflect what I see in this phone and that is the battery is significantly worse than what I saw on my OnePlus One.

For a limited time Google Play has the Nexus 6P on sale for $50 off with free overnight shipping!

So tempted to pickup a 64GB, which color should I get and suggestions on a thin TPU case?

Ooo... Very tempting. I know I'm going to get the 128gig version soon, the plan was after tax return. But if I can get $50 off now that'd be nice

I'm tempted to get the N6P as well and w/ Fi.

BUT, my friends (low data users like me) are quite happy with Republic Wireless, and RW is due to announce a high-end phone available for their service. So, I can't decide to wait for RW or go for the N6P w/ Fi. ( I HATE 'DAT...)

Do you have to start Fi as soon as you buy the phone, or can you just get the phone now and then try Fi later?

Damn you RossMAN... I was perfectly happy waiting another month or so until you told me I could save money if I bought it NOW. Now I'm considering adding more holiday strain on my wallet.

I hope you're happy

According to the FAQ of Fi, you can buy your phone separately and then later request an invite if you want. I'm not sure how it would work though if you bought your phone through the Fi service.

and I'll bet the Moto X Pure 32GB for $100 off doesn't help matters either, does it?

Eh, I've never been a big fan of Motorola phones. Though granted I haven't bothered researching this one. After many years of Samsung useage I think I'll enjoy the freedom of Nexus, even if my days of messing with roms are behind me. It'll still be nice to be able to do what I want if the mood strikes.

So far, so good.

Who are all the people buying multiple phones in the same generation (or apparently different versions of the same phone generation and family)?

Also, are these the same people who complain that iPhone costs too much?

He's having issues with the 5X so he decided to switch the 6P. It's not exactly what you're thinking.

Just sold my Nexus 5X. Going back to screen protectors and cases, having a screen protector and case on the phone from day one made it easy to sell when I could say that it was in flawless condition with no scratches or anything on the phone.

Question - just noticed today that when I send a SMS from my contacts it goes to Google Hangouts and uses my phone's number and not my Google Voice number even though I have my Google Voice number as my default SMS number.

Any idea how I fix this?

When in Hangouts, open the menu, go to settings, then tap on "SMS"

There's options there for "send SMS from" which might be what you're looking for. If you keep "send SMS from" on "remember last number used" then it should stick with whatever number you sent from last.

You can also toggle the "enable merged conversations" option which lets you easily switch between SMS and Voice. After you enable it just tap the icon to the left of the text field and you can choose which number to send as easily.
