I haven't noticed any issues or battery life decrease with 6.01. That PC mag article was poorly written. He writes as if the issue is universal. Can we expect him to return the 6S Plus when he runs into his first bug?

Yes, exactly. It was more of a rant than anything.

only issue i've had since 6.01 is my phone stays 3G vs going on 4G LTE. which is kind of significant. but i still love this darn phone.

I finally got my 6P today.
First impressions:
- very reminiscent of my HTC One M7. Same great build quality, stereo speakers.
- This phone is HUGE. I've never used anything bigger than a S6/Moto G 2015, so it's going to take a while to get used to.
- 6P's AMOLED display looks washed out next to the OnePlus X AMOLED display.
- Fingerprint reader is excellent, and love the positioning in the back.
- Doze seems to be working fine, although I can't put the device down.
- Stereo speakers. I really miss this, again from the One M7.
- USB Type C - awesome, finally something comparable to the Lightning connector. I just need to replace all my microUSB cables (everywhere).
- Fast charging - miss this from the S6.
- Very smooth performance. This was to be expected.
- 6.01. Already on the latest build, one of the major advantages of a Nexus device.

Need to try out the camera and see how the battery does for the next week.

Had the 6p for a few days now, but today was the first day I got the sim switched over and started really using it. I'm a little torn (as I knew I would be with stock android) but it's still a nice device. The software is what holds it back:

Good (which isn't news):
+great build quality
+great fingerprint sensor
+good screen, looks to be the same as my note 4
+responsive, smooth (for the most part)
+flashlight toggle in quick settings

Bad:
-Even less customization than Samsung offers w/out root (can't change quick settings)
-No longer an option to organize setting screens by tab, only in one long list (don't like it)
-No way to clear everything out of recent apps with one button, despite every other phone maker having this feature.
-Camera app is kind of lackluster. Can't even turn off the shutter sound... which I kind of assumed was a given
- No separate volume for ringer and notification sounds anymore (why take features away?)
- No way to adjust vibration amount or intensity, it's either on or off

Different:
- I'm just used to hardware home & back buttons, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Apparently there was a lot I took for granted in touchwiz that's not in Android. If I had known so many things I used were going to be missing I would have thought twice about going this route. Many of these missing things might be available in roms, but then I'm tied to that particular developer updating things on time.

Not that I don't like the phone, it's great hardware. I just didn't know how limited stock Android truly was until you dig through what the devs have done.

Thanks. Keep the insights coming. I'm deciding within a few weeks between the N6P and the LG V10.............

For what it's worth, it's got fast charging, if you use the included wall charger.
Sorry if it wasn't clear, but I was listing that as a feature of the N6P, and saying I missed that from my S6 (since my Moto G, or OPX didn't have it).

1st full day battery life was good. I took it off the charger at 6am and I'm still over 50% at 11pm. Fairly typical use, with about an hour or more of constant screen on time playing Heads Up with the family.

I booted up my note 4 to get some stuff off of it. I never realized how much stuttering and slowness there was until I used it after being on the 6p for a while. The nexus is just so much smoother doing pretty much anything.

I've finally decided the 5X is a down right terrible phone. The lag is unbearable and both mine and my wife's phones have the exact same problems. If you don't reboot it daily you will find it almost unusable compared to the nexus 5. I made a huge mistake with this phone.
Weird. I don't have any of these issues on my 5x.

cause that's not what you're supposed to do

Go ahead and reboot your nexus... then go to the recent apps. (hint: all of your recent apps are still on the list, even though none of them have started up since boot)

you aren't supposed to clear recent apps... let the phone manage RAM for yourself... force close specific apps if they are misbehaving

unfortunately, this is true....

My buddy wants to buy my nexus 6. I will end up with a 64 gb 6p. Problem is aluminum silver is out of stock. Does anyone have the frost model? Does it feel plastic like?

Interesting. That's exactly what I like about stock Android, although I do still use Nova launcher over the stock one (I don't like the huge icons in the stock launcher). I like the simplicity and speed of stock vs. skinned.

The only thing that leaves me wanting is the camera app. It could be a little better for sure.

I'm now somewhat reconsidering if I really want a phone as big as the N6P or the LG V10.

I'm a retired guy with a part-time job (to get out of the condo and away from the boss) moving cars to various locations for Hertz. I'm constantly in/out of cars, and the big phones don't fit well/if at all, in my slacks or shirt pockets.... How to deal w/ that?

I have the frost model, and having not handled any other 6p color I can say it feels very good in the hand. The texture of the back does feel a bit like plastic (especially if it's warm like just out of the pocket), but around the edge is undoubtedly metal. It feels similar to my Note 4 which was the best feeling phone I had handled at the time. It's solid, and feels good enough that I'm always tempted to use it without a case.

I'm not sure what your expectations are, but I can tell you I'm 100% happy with getting frost over any other color. I think the contrast with the chrome around the fingerprint sensor and black camera "hump" makes the white a good choice. It looks so good that I purposefully picked a clear case so I could see it. The black accents around the case make it look like a stormtrooper model =P

Thanks for the description. I was going to order the frost model while the sale was on for $50 off. Mainly because the aluminum model was out of stock. But I missed out on the sale today so I might as well wait until aluminum is back in stock.

I have the white nexus 6 right now and it's pretty much only a couple months old since moto sent me a new one. I'm happy with it but my buddy needs to leave att and he needs a new phone so I sold him mine to use on whatever carrier since I'm not on any contract.

Because I've already had a white phone I figure I'll try the aluminum out. I remember the metal of the htc m7 and I liked that. I believe the back was also anodized white too.

Mainly I was wondering if the back felt like plastic or sort of like metal. I'll be rocking a clear case on mine as well. The white is definitely nicely contrasted.

It doesn't feel like metal to me unless I have it out of my pocket for a while in a cool room. Frankly if I wasn't told different I'd just assume the back was plastic, but it also wouldn't bother me. I've never had a metal backed phone, so I'm not necessarily the best judge of it since I have no frame of comparison. It's the first fixed back android I've ever had, so I'm used to removable plastic panels. This feels much more solid regardless of texture.
