Ripped from TBargains. I haven't done this, I'm just thinking about doing this deal. Seems about the same as the Staples deals, if not a little better. LMK your opinions. This is at Office Depot. They are apparently PMing the staples deals. Visit TBargains for more details.

Instore only: Presario 900Z, XP1800+/256MB (2dimms) 20GB, 8xDVD/CDRW, 15" TFT, 56k modem, floppy, 8cell battery, 10/100 ethernet, XP Home, Ground shipping $1339 - $340 = $999 - $100 rebate = $899

Agreed. YMMV. I haven't seen anyone who has successfully completed this deal. Either on FW or TB, but supposedly it's out there. I will probably go up at lunch and will post my results

Are these BTO or pre-configured Compaq laptops?

If you can, upgrade to the 15.0" SXGA (instead of XGA) and higher capacity 66 WHr battery.

They should be BTO, but in order for the coupon code to work, it has to be that exact configuration. I will check and see how much those upgrades would cost, I do agree, that they should be made. Also, the 1500T didn't have a DVD/CD-RW, right? Having the CD-RW with the 15inch screen makes the deal for me, but I will post an update when I know more.

I can't link to tbargains, it isn't too hard to find.

I went up to OD at lunch, and their built-to-order machine was in the process of being ghosted. Doh! I asked a guy about the code and he hadn't heard a thing, clueless in other words.

Anybody else tried this deal?

Thanks

I think Compaq has made a lot of progress. Just in case thought mine comes with a 1 year Compaq warranty (or is it 90 days?) and since I purchased it using my VISA credit card I receive an extra 1 year of extended warranty coverage for free. I still would NEVER buy an HP or Compaq desktop but I think the 1500T is a solid laptop.

Unfortunately it weighs 7 pounds and you feel every ounce of that, then again I paid $837 after coupons & rebates with FREE LUGGAGE and FREE LUGGAGE and FREE WIFI @ Staples (deal is dead) ... so considering the awesome deal I got, I am very happy with my Compaq 1500T. I use it about an hour a day.

I opted for the Celeron 1.4-M which is awesome, it's not slow at all, it's easy on the battery life, creates less heat than a desktop P4 would, costs less than a P4 and best of all I paid the extra $29 for the higher capacity 66 WHr battery.

Actually I think the Staples $300 off $1099 or more BTO coupon expires 11/2 and I think there's a new Compaq $100 coupon out there? Check FW Hot Deals forum search for HP.

The Staples coupon has been extended to 11/9 for BTO machines.

RossMAN, I still love my ZE5000...I use mine about 6 hours a day...love being untied from my desk and able to roam.

$340 is an INSTANT rebate available @ OD
$300 is a COUPON CODE available @ Staples

Hope that clears it up.

Thanks for the help Rossman

I was thinking about doing the 1500T deal, but just never got around to it. I'd recommend you go look at the 900z at Office Depot, it looks pretty decent. But anyways, If anyone can verify this deal, let us know. Thanks in advance

I still prefer the 1500T over the 900 (which I heard had some problems before which may have since then been resolved).

The 1500T has two USB 2.0 ports and one FireWire port, I think the 900 only has one USB 1.1 port, that's it.

Just got back from Office Depot (and Staples). I printed out a page from staples.com with the final price (after $300 savings) and surely enough, the sales guy at Office Depot pulled out the afore-mentioned memo authorizing to beat the Staples deal with the $999 notebook.

Heh, just to see how far they would go, I went to Staples later to see if I can get 110% on the Office Depot deal but they understandibly refused, since $999 is not OD's "everyday" price.

So here's what I recommend:
If you want the absolute lowest price, go with Staples. They allow you to lower the specifications and bring the price down to $844 shipped (plus tax). I selected a 1.3GHz processor instead of 1.53GHz and a plain DVD drive instead of a DVD/CDRW combo (I already have an external firewire burner). Total comes to $1,169 + $75 shipping - $300 coupon - $100 MIR = $844 + tax

If you would rather have the burner, just print out the Staples deal, take it to Office Depot and you will get yours for $899 + tax after rebates.

Peace out.

The 900Z have 2 usb 1.1 port, and if you need to get firewire port then you got to configure it for extra money. You will need to call staples to configure the firewire, its not available on the web order.

In anycase Rossman's 1500T is definately a steal, remember that it also comes with a free multiport wireless.

Noelman: Please keep in mind that the 900Z DOES run pretty hot. If you go to local shops to look at the laptops ask the sales person to let you touch the bottom of the unit. Or just open up the dvd drive and touch the bottom of the drive and you would know what I mean.
