They're still not up at zipzoomfly

EDIT: They did not, new ETA is Sep 28, 2004

[Well, this is why links to reliable newegg & zipzoomfly were originally posted above, shop there whenever you can or you'll find out the hard way why you should... ]

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 512K 90nm (939)
Price: $208.00 FREE SHIPPING

newegg and zipzoomfly may post them with lower prices + they offer reliable tracking emails with FedEx/UPS tracking #s same day or the day after you order.

A lot of people are skeptical that 90nm will overclock much further than 130nm yet because AMD moved the 90nm 4000+s to 2005. We'll know by the end of the week how they overclock, that is if they ship them tomorrow.

My $ is on these being super overclockers.

I ordered from Monarch a few days ago. At the time the site said they were taking preorders on a "first come first served" basis with an ETA of 9/28. Mine shipped on the 24th and will arrive on the 29th.

Wow, the prices sure did go up. I paid $208 + $15 for the 3 year warranty = $223 shipped.

Nice catch

I expect the 90nm parts to overclock quite a bit more than the 130nm parts. But there are things to consider. The best 90nm parts will be towards the end of the cycle.

and AMD will likely sell off it worst performing 90nm parts FIRST. So that means these parts we are looking at

It could even be that the average overclock on these parts will not even match (same speed) 130nm parts.

Some very valid points edplayer

Guess we'll have to wait & see what people are able to do with these.

I'm certainly not jumping in..... just yet.

Thanks for the post c627627

If you didn't buy Socket 754 mobos yet, don't. The new Socket 939 90nms will overclock further than anything we've seen so far...

I guess it's a good thing I've decided to hold off. Low-end 939's finally, it's about time!

Keep in mind NVIDIA quoted Q4 2004 for their PCI-express nForce chipset, though currently it's going to NOT ship with SoundStorm 2.0. Now to wait for dual-core 939's...

Dual cores will not be released until just before 2006 and will not be affordable until way into 2006.

Can you post links of nForce4 not having SoundStorm because ever since it was not included with nForce3, word was that it will return, new & improved, with nForce4 chipset.

Probably not these early revisions....maybe in 4-5 months.

I now believe that assumption to be incorrect and recommend the 90nm Socket 939 for overclocking.

Think mobile Bartons when they were first released in terms of voltage, heat dissipation and overclocking potential.

But we'll find out for sure next week, although you know, 2400+ mobile Bartons when they were first released were some of the best overclockers whereas now, 2400+ mobiles are not recommended because they don't overclock as much as the 2500+ and especially 2600+ mobile Bartons.

No proof yet as to how high these will OC, in fact, everything to this point is pure conjecture. Also, all the 939 boards I know suck. I wouldn't touch any of them with a 10 foot poll. If anything, I would buy the new 90nm 3000+ MOBILE that is a s754 and is suppose to be out now as well, just no one has them for sale. It's a 1.2v and 35 WATT proc. Compared with the current 81.5 watt mobiles out and 85w desktops.. that thing will over clock like a nothing else on a DFI board. Wait a week or two, get the new DFI 754 board. Get the new 90nm low power mobile, and overclock to your hearts content. In a year, hopefully a good overclocking 939 board will be out, better revisions of the 90nm procs will be out and good implementation and adoption of PCI-e.

Not true. The Asus A8V Rev. 2.0 is a very good board. So are the MSI and Gigabyte NF3 boards, although some have had mixed experiences with the MSI and the Giga is a bit too expensive.

now they just need 939 boards with two 16x PCIe connectors, and it will finaly be time for me to upgrade. Chug-a-Lug-a, Chug-a-Lug-a, Chug-a-Lug-a, Chug-a-Lug-a. People sure are taking their time in producing a value priced, "relatively future proof" AMD 64 Platform... just two more months.

By the way when do we get to see a review of these up on anand?

Some have had "mixed experiences" with A8V Rev 2 as well. I stand by my post.

This means don't buy from Monarch Computer as they now have a history of deceiving us by getting us to place orders with arbitrary dates that get moved and moved until the product arrives to every major web store anyway...

It could also mean that they shipped their first batch of processors, and the 9/28 date is the ETA for their next shipment.

Monarch has been a great supplier in the past, so I doubt they are playing a "bait & switch" on their shipment dates.

In July, I ordered a Athlon 64 3200+ Newcastle from Monarch and got a Clawhammer. I wasn't exactly disappointed because it was a CG, but I would have been if I wasn't an overclocker. They also took forever to ship the thing. I ordered from them because GA was close to NC. I could have gotten it faster from Newegg in Cali. LOL.

Go read the boards at nForcers HQ. Current word is that SoundStorm isn't in. Of course we've seen design sketches that say there is some sort of hardware audio in the next nForce chipset too.

I've also seen AMD roadmaps with dual core cpu's in Q2 '05. Keep in mind that these may be Socket 940 only though.

You may be right about no SoundStorm but there still is contradicting information out there:
August 2004: http://techreport.com/onearticle.x/7246
"The next nForce won't have SoundStorm audio"

July 2004: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=17058
"As for sound freaks, this chipset will feature SP-10, Soundstorm 2 audio that will be Dolby Digital 5.1 compliant and it will be able to do EX effects at 20 GFlops processing power. Soundstorm 2 supports 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 speaker configurations."

The AMD roadmaps you saw had dual core CPUs not in Q2 '05 but in H2 2005:

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Corpo.../0,,51_104_608,00.html

H2 2005 may (and frequently does) mean 'end of 2005', as late as December 2005, which is "just before 2006 ."

This is a slap in the face to me. I wanted 939 but since AMD was keeping their prices sky high, I finally got a 754 3200+ Claw. I have it 3400+ speeds. If I had know that 3200+ Winchesters were coming out two weeks later, I would have waited.
