I searched the forums but didn't find any thread with many and only reports with this CPU. I also looked at overclockers.com database, and they didn't list the Winchesters separatly, so I couldn't gather any info there.

I know many are thinking of buying this CPU, especially the 3000+ (including me), so I was wondering if everyone reading this which has bought one could share their overclocking experience with these?

If possible, include stepping etc. Please also include info about mobo, mem, mem divider, HT speed etc.
Thanks!

A64 3000+ 90nm (D0) @ 2.4ghz (1.55V)
MSI Neo2 K8N Bios 1.3
2x512mb OCZ 3200 Plat Rev2 @ 267mhz (2.5-3-3-10) - 2.8v
Zalman 7000 CU @ Full speed
Ratio 1:1
HTT 4x/9x multiplier
Raptor on SATA Port 3
Enermax Whisper II 460Watt (33Amp 12v rail)

Idle 38C - Load: up to 54C

Went from a P4 2.0/512mb/9800Pro to this new system with the 9800 Pro... CS Source stress test went from 72 to 106. It's like I installed a new v.card.

Pretty nice overclocks so far Especially Lithan. But I guess we need quite some more entries...

Btw, PwAg: What made you stop at 2.4GHz? My guess is you didn't want to loose your 1:1 mem setting? But have you tried maxing out the CPU?

SpeedO,
I can run my week 43 3000+ @ 2.6 and below prime stable >24hrs. 2.6-6.63 I can play games without it kicking me out of them. 2.63-2.67 I can benchmark. Above that, it asks for vacation...although once, on accident, I set the multiplier from 8 to 9 and it POSTed with a 2.790G speed...makes you wonder...

I actually didn't stop at 2.4, but decided that speed was a safe happy medium since my video card (9800Pro) was holding back any more advances in gaming performance. This is a gaming system.

I should have mentioned though that when I dropped the memory/fsb ratio down one notch to 166 setting, and dropped HTT 4x to 3x, I could hit 2.67 ghz (297FSB). It would run 3dmark03 and perform SuperPI no prob. Prime95 for 10mins but I never let it run longer. Will do that this weekend.

I'm sure it could do 2.7ghz...I think I got a bit lucky with this chip. Bought it from a fellow anandtech member as well...rockin.

I have it running 2.5 ghz for the last 12hrs now...putting it through the tests.

I'll let you know if I hit the 2.7mark.

I can hit 2.5 and run at high voltages, but I backed off to 2.4 ust to be safe. 100mhz doesn't make that big of a difference. See sig for details.

Yeah... very nice overclocks so far!

Of course duds probably exist, which perhaps don't go above 2.3GHz or even 2.2GHz. But I wonder if the most common reason for people not hitting 2.4GHz and above is because they use the wrong mem ratio, HT speed or vcore? Especially among first time overclockers...

Btw, have anyone here checked how much they loose by going async on the memory? I have 2x512 of Geil Cas2 DDR400 memory in my current barton setup right now, which I was planning on moving over to my upcoming nForce4/3000+ Winchester combo. Having to upgrade my ram aswell would make my upgrade much more expensive. I guess that to be able to hit around 290FSB I'd have to set memory to "133" in bios, which should make the mem run a little below spec. (300FSB should be 400DDR). Would be interesting to know how much performance I loose doing this instead of getting 600MHz mem running at 1:1...
