I was considering voting 'tsunami' first, but then decided to go with '911'. As previous posters have stated, the tsunami was a natural event. Earthquakes and tsunamis are a fact of life here on Earth. They happen all the time, and the impact they have on us is the consequence of living on a volatile planet. The tsunami in Asia isn't a rare event, they happen all the time. 9/11, on the other hand, was planned and carried out by terrorists seeking to destroy a specific people. Just the amount of thought and scheming terrorists did to attack the US was enough for me to pick '911'. The death toll of the tsunami is caused by a natural disaster, disease and lack of water. The death toll of 9/11 was the result of suicidal terrorists hijacking gas loaded jets. While the death toll was obviously much smaller in 9/11, the psychological impact and how it frightened hundreds of millions of people in the world to see terrorists lash out so violently made it a "worse" event in my book, but of course 9/11 and the recent tsunami aren't directly comparable in every way.. Just my .02.

I only read up to page 3 and I am not sure if someone bring this up yet.

After 911 the whole world is thinking about "kill that MFer, gear up and fight....etc"
After Tsunami the whole world suddenly realize we are living on the same planet, I should donate some green to help them out.

I just hope that after Tsunami those leaders can get their ass together to give us a better world and stop the stupid war. They're some of the best people on the planet, they should know even if you have the most powerful army in the world after one disaster you have nothing left.

Tsunami is "waves are over I'm alive or i'm dead"

One was an act of terrorism, which makes it lamentable, but jeez, death is death; I don't really think you can 'rank' disasters like that.

That is very true. Also, I don't think we can open a can of "whoop ass" on a Tsunami like we can on Saddam or even Bin Laden.

In regards to the Tsunami, I find it kind of sad because most of those who were killed were people who lived near the shores in fishing villages. They were just there - no alert, no way to avoid the disaster.

9/11 --> war in Afganistan + war in Iraq --> lots of $$ going to third world areas
tsunami --> lots of $$ and relief going to third world areas

the loss of 120k people from one earthquake sort of puts the 800 or so soldiers killed (10k wounded) fighting in Iraq this year in perspective

Also in 1918 the flu killed 50 million people around the world in a few months, by 1950 few people remembered it ever happen.

Are you kidding? We are reminded and educated about the 1918 pandemic every flu season. This is intensified by a press that wants every flu season to be as dramtic.

But I will agree to a point. More people remember attacks for far longer than they do natural disasters.

Look at the signifigance Pearl Harbor still has on our nation.

Today we are reminded since we are in danger again from this bird flu. But beleive me in 1950s almost no one remembered. There was a mass collective amnemsia in the world. You know almost no history book will even mention the pandemic.

Natural Disaster:

The Earthquake followed by the tsunamis and the aftermath

Man Made:

The Trade Towers in N.Y. (most recent to our memories in North America and on U.S./North American soil) but there have been worse around the World and in different decades

Going by death toll and destruction, of course the tsunami was the bigger disaster.

Which one is worse though? It gets kinda blurry. While 9/11 had a much smaller body count (but by no means small mind you), these people like you said were murdered. Natural disasters occur, like we have just seen. But they were not done on purpose. All of those people deaths were not planned out. Now I'm not trying to downplay the tsunami by any means, but I would consider 9/11 to be more horrific.

The Tsunami is the result of the earth trying to vomit out the sin sown in that area, for many years.

911 is the result of the evil one catching a righteous Nation off guard. Something that won?t happen again, as long as I am here.

Sin sown has an effect on the Earth. This area of the earth is ripe with the worship of false gods. This Tsunami is only the beginning of woe.

Be of good cheer, it is a signal of the imminent rescue of the righteous. If you are wise you will discern the times.

Great, another fanatical Christian nutso - why do these people think populating a computer-related board is a good idea? Are you trying to save us, MrPALCO?
