do you guys think it'll be a worthy upgrade to get one of those X2 3600/DFI combo
and oc it. will i notice the performance increase

I cant go C2D, because im trying to spend as little as possible

No. There's no performance benefit, and the new AMD CPU's and socket are not that far off at this point. I know that there's always something better coming, but AM2 is not it. If you're looking to upgrade now, and see some improvement, then C2D is the way to go.

You won't see any performance increase worth mentioning. Don't bother.

why spend money on a sidegrade - even if you get the AM2 to overclock to around 2.5ghz - you wont even notice the difference - if you do want to spend money - then spend a bit more and get an E6300 and relevant mobo and ram - and you will see a difference worth talking about - especially if you can overclock that to around 3ghz or higher - you would be matching the performance of an amd at around 3.4 to 3.5ghz (not many amd cpus go that high - and many intel lowend cpus can reach the 3ghz - id spend the marginal bit more and go the intel route

ps im not intel fanboy - right now i dont even have an intel machine - ive actually got three amd machines which are doing what i need them to do - so pointless for me to upgrade until i go to quad or 8 core

If you feel it is worth it, why not spend some money and get a better heatsink i.e. an XP90 and see if you can get somewhere nearer a 2.6-2.7Ghz overclock (or maybe 2.8Ghz )

Definately stay with the 939 vs going AM2. Even going C2D would not be a huge benefit right now. No-one is 100% sure AM2 will work with AM3, that also may be a dead end upgrade socket

Soon they will cabe E6X50 procs with 1333mhz FSB (Bearlake ICH9), may as well wait it out and jump on that as your next upgrade

There is really no real benefit from going to AM2 from a 939. It's more of a lateral move, rather than moving up. If you want to move up, then get a C2D system.

At the same MHz your performance will be really similar, so you'd need a good overclock.

Going to AM2, besides mobo/CPU which are less than the lowest decent C2D board and a C2D CPU, you'd have to buy RAM too. If you want to save money, then wait until after the upcoming price drops before buying anything.

get X2 3600+ w/ tforce 550 combo: $133 I think, that'll work fine allows higher than 2.3 OC for sure but not sure that's much difference tho. I say wait for C2D price drop on 4/22 and get a new C2D setup, sell your current mb+cpu, the c2d go to 3+ Ghz so that's a worthwhile upgrade for you. unless you consider 2.3 x2 to 2.8/9 a reasonable upgrade. For me I'd wait for a bigger boost in an upgrade.
