95 to 98 without upgrade cd?

i need to upgrade to 98 to load norton systemworks and internet security 2002 on a 200mhz machine with 64mb ram ..this is were it gets trick i have the full version of 98 but i don't want to reformat my hd or reload everything can i upgrade from 95 to 98 with the full version cd of 98

i need a response soon cause i just netwroked with a good machine which i tryed to make a server bto the otherone but it didn't work out so i just got a spliter but right now the virus updates on my old one is like 5 months old and i'm gonna ripped on if that machine gets a virus.

I've never tried doing this, but what happens if you just put the CD in? Something will come up, it may just say this OS is older than the one on the CD, do you want to upgrade?

really? i havn't tried it cause i thought it would just reformat my hard drive (that's what my conversion from 3.1 to 95 did a few years ago)

I think you should be able to just put the full version in while youre in Win95, it'll come up and say do you want to upgrade this older OS..blah blah blah.

It wont let you install the full version over Win95. You can try this, but I'm not sure it will work.
Rename win.com to win.oldfart
Boot from a floppy with CDrom drivers
Run the setup off the Win98 CD
It may want to install in a new directory like c:\windows001. Dont let it. Specify the same directory as Win95 c:\windows

Again, not sure so try at your own risk.

quantum...just stick the CD in and see what it says. if youre in Windows, it isn't going to automatically erase all your data. If it gives you the option to upgrade, which I think it should, then you're golden. If not, don't do it.

Yea you can do it, but not recomended. A fresh reformat is better but it will work.
Do you have fat 16 or 32 installed. You can convert it to fat 32 after you install windows if this is the case.

No problem, I've done it lots! Change name of "Win.com" in your Windows directory, then boot with a W98 start-up disk(with CDROM support). Switch 2 your CD drive & type in "Setup", hit enter. When it asks where 2 install new W98 system, state: "C:\Windows".

If ya had "W95 font-smoothing" or any VIA's 4-in-1 software installed, uninstall it first. Good luck!
