Just picked up a BFG ti4600 128DDR VIVO this afternoon to replace a dying ti4200.

Out of the 2, which is better?

I should check to see if the Radeon 9500 Pro has improved performance-wise since the Cat 2.4s were released. I've got a few benches (though isn't there a "new" benchmarking version of the UT2003 demo?), the Cat 2.4s and the Cat 3.2s, so maybe I'll do that over the weekend. I'm sure there must have been some performance gains over the span of 4 drivers, especially since the Radeon 9500 Pro was so new when the 2.4s were released.

But if you need ViVo, then the Radeon 9500 Pro isn't an option; it only has TV out.

After having some major driver problems with my Radeon 9700 Pro I'm back to my old trusty Ti4600. I have nothing against ATI and although their drivers are much better there's still too many driver problems especially with older games. Ok I probably shouldn't be using the Radeon 9700 Pro for older games but I'm hardly going to throw out half my games collection just because I have a ATI video card. Anyway my GF4 Ti4600 runs even my oldest games without any problems at all and the same should be true for ATI shouldn't it?

My vote goes with 9500 Pro if you have a collection of 100% new games and the Ti4600 if you have some older games you want to use as well, don't under estimate how important good drivers are!

Ooh, Ooh! A question I can answer with actual experience. I have both - a Sapphire 9500Pro and a BFG Ti4600. I've used them both in my machine and both are excellent. My impressions are mostly based on playing UT2003 because it has the best graphics out right now. I liked the Radeon best for its AA and AF - looks great and plays great. Same with the Ti4600, but it didn't perform as well with the good stuff turned on. Both cards are more than capable of playing anything out there (I've played Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights, UT2003, etc.) but I think the Radeon edges the Ti4600 - 9500Pro's in my machine, Ti4600's in my wife's! Oh, yeah, and with a little work, the Radeon overclocks better...

get at least a 9700 non pro its only $30-50 more than a 9500 pro

or the upgrade isnt worth it at all

Ti4200 to 4600?

that is like going from a Geforce Ti200 to a Ti500 which imo is pointless

have you tried overclocking the Ti4200? you can get almost Ti4600 performance from the 4200 if you overclock it

he said it was dying...as in needed to be replaced due to technical probs, not just for an upgrade.

Well i've been reading more and more about the 9500 softmod.

Whats my chances of getting an 'L-shaped memory' card from BB?

I've got the same question. In April, a friend of mine is going to buy a Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb (or whenever they're available), and he said he'll sell me his PNY GeForce 4 Ti 4600 cheap...he mentioned something about $100

I'm going to put my GF4 Ti 4200 in my other computer (a 1600+ with a mere GF2 GTS right now). I'm fearing ATI's drivers, so I don't know if I should get my friends Ti 4600 or a new Radeon 9500/9600 Pro.

Looking at the latest benchmarks, it looks like ATI is the way to go, if you have the extra $. Too bad these benchmarks were released AFTER I bought my ti4400...oh well.

So heres what im lookin at doin...

Currently Have (and still can return): BVG ti4600 128DDR VIVO - $219 AR

Thinking about getting:
1. Sapphire 9500 128DDR (L-Mem, will softmod to 9700) - $160
2. TV LEADTEK WINFAST Model VC100 XP TV Video Capture Card (to view digital cable) - $33

TOTAL: $193

Should i take back my card and go for the 9500 and the video cap card?

That would seem to be the way to go. Not only does the 9500 pro beat the 4600 in many REGULAR benchmarks, it absolutely murders it in FSAA and Anisotropic performance.

If all goes well, though, and you can mod the 9500 to a 9700, that still beats out virtually everything out right now, except the 9700pro and GeForce FX5800ultra. And for less money, too. Only thing is, I've heard your chances of it actually working aren't too great...

Your chances of picking up a regular 9500 with "L" shape memory are pretty slim, prob less than 5%

Ever since the introduction of the softmod back in december, ATI has stopped producing the regular 9500's on a 9700 PCB.

Dude, if you can get a GF4Ti4600 for 100 bucks, JUMP ON IT!!!!
You cant touch that card for under 200 bucks IMHO

I know We'll see if he still wants to sell it for $100 after he buys a Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb

0% since BB only sells the 9500 pro, not the non-pro.
