9600AIW pro - $220

Well that deal for the Radeon 9700 Pro all in wonder is dead I think. But I got the PM to compusa for -$58. So I got mine for around $200 after rebates/PM.
Edit: It is still valid. The mail in rebates last till 10/25/03. The PM part is dead though as compusa doesn't have the instant savings anymore I think.

The 9600Pro AIW definately comes with the HL2 voucher. I would know because I got one from Newegg. Ordered it on Friday when the price was $236. ARGH!

eh, the 9600 AIW doesn't have dvi.. me wrong. but it'd work well for a media box actually, I'd just use a 9000 AIW for a medai box....

The 9600AIW does have DVI... to quote from here.:

"Because of dual monitor support, ATI has been forced to rearrange the connector layout scheme. Considering the alignment of the TV tuner, it would have been impossible to place two display outputs (DVI and/or VGA in any combination) and I/O ports on a single slot. For this to be accomplished, ATI would have had to use a riser for a two-slot design, similar to what ABIT has done with their OTES cards. Though this would be considered bulky and odd for the mainstream market, the other option was to redesign the I/O layout. VGA and DVI are outputs, so naturally, combining this with the traditional output connectors into a single cable makes perfect sense. By this method, ATI is able to keep I/O cables separate and still make room for the tuner ? in this case, the TV and FM tuner."

This card can be had for $18x.xx + tax shipped from Dell SB with a 20% coupon that is floating around and if you were lucky enough to have a 10% stackable emailed to you. The deal ends today, and I can't make up my mind. I just bought a radeon 9600 pro retail for 140ish after rebate a month ago. I really wish I would have waited.

There is a dongle that plugs into that that has another four ports or something on it, two of which are VGA ports. The Newegg pic will probably have a shot of it.

I just bought the AIW 9600 Pro from Newegg to replace an older AIW Radeon. I guess I didn't do my homework because I was shocked that it didn't have a DVI connector. I'm trying to decide whether to send it back for something else, or just get an adapter to go from VGA to DVI. I don't need dual monitor support, but I'm also not thrilled by spending more money for the AIW 9700 PRO or 9800 PRO. Assuming I can find one, is there any downside to using an adapter?

The AIW cards have tuners built in. The AIW 9600 Pro has dual monitor support...but only via a proprietary splitter connection for VGA X 2 only...no DVI. Both the 9700 & 9800 AIWs run hot- the oncard fans must be running for the card to work properly. In a quiet HTPC (home theater pc), these fans will be the loudest part of the system. If you connect to a cable or satellite box, the tuners are worthless because you must use the STB (set top box) to change channels. Most HDTV monitor manufacturers are starting to include a DVI input on their new TVs. The HDTV STBs (from cable & satellite) provide component & s-video out. When the TV has component IN (for direct viewing from the STB) & DVI IN (for viewing from the PC), a quality compromise is reached without breaking the bank.

I posted another thread on the ASUS 9600XT for $219.00. This card is perfect for MY intended purposes. It has VGA & DVI outputs (for dual channel) and Video IN. Quieting its fan will require some testing when I get it. The AIW 7500 has no fan, btw- that's why many (including me) are still using it in their HTPCs... Of course, the vidiots jumped all over my thread, too.. with inane, opinionated ignorance (refer to the quote above).

Does the Asus have a temp sensor built in like the 9800XT?
