it seems like the 8800GT slightly out-preforms the 9600gt but i can get the 9600 for about 40 dollars cheaper. Which would you go with? both factoring and not factoring price.

The 9600GT is around the 3870, faster when filters are enabled and slower when they aren't , and we all know that this ATI card is around 10% slower then 8800 GT. So the logical buy is the 8800 but if you have a tight budget you can go with this geforce 9 card, but for only 40 $ more I would just get the 8800 GT.

Error, all 3 cards perform the same give or take a few fps here and there, Now unless you

have a bionic eye or have fraps on you will not notice any diffrence when playing games,

but the new 9600GT has updated features like Enhanced pure video settings and better

memory managment and is a good bit cheaper than the 8800GT, i think out of the 3 just

go with what you can get the cheapest.

That is your opinion and you can't force me to accept it. In my own opinion nothing has really changed since the release of the 8800 GT, because it still is the best bang for buck, it's not much faster the the 9600 GT but it is faster and that should make it the better choice. I don't really see that the enhanced pure video can really offer such an important visual quality boost in movies, and what is the point of better memory management if the card is still slower then the 8800 GT?

8800gt for sure. It is roughly 20% faster. Give or take for $30 more.

Yup most definitely. 8800gt is just more for not much more.

I'd go with this Gigabyte 9600gt for 176.00$ shipped. It's 50$ cheaper then any 8800gt if you don't like rebates. I can't find any 8800gt's for any less then 226.00$ shipped without rebate.

i agree with you...these small differences in frame rates hardly matter in the big picture. i'd go with the 9600gt or the 3870 now that they've dropped in price.

The 9600 GT seems to be quite slower in shader intensive games like Ghost Recon 2 or World in conflict and the next games that are about to be released will be surely shader intensive. That is why I believe that a 8800 GT will be the smarter choice, but again money talks so the 9600 could be the one to buy.

Personally I'm waiting until the 9800 series cards are launched and will probably get one of those. Or else an 8800GT/S if the prices fall considerably following the launch.

I couldn't agree with you more.

There will be more games where it will be shader bound. Currently 64SP seems to be enough with current crop of games but I'm not so sure about the future.

^^best deal, overclocks well, and much faster than a 9600gt

when running 1920x1200 res, would you rather play bioshock at 41fps or 62fps? (which is a btw a lot more than 2-3fps and is more like 50% faster) Thats the difference a 8800gt makes over a 9600gt.

That msi card is fantastic at that price! even with 9600gt available, I think that it's hard to NOT pay $20 more for the msi card with 660 core + better cooling solution (dual slot, exhausts heat out the back, cools MUCH better and is quieter) + only $20 more AR. 9600gt is a great card but that msi just can't be beat right now. Engineer has the price right, too, $196 is just stupid cheap. That card is basically a stock gts with 16 sp's missing, and it's under $200. Anybody looking at any mid/high card should be pushed (either up or down) to this until something really good comes out. Of course, nvidia has an agressive slate scheduled for mar 11-apr 3, so it'll be interesting to see what shakes out in the near future.

9600GT updated features is just a driver update. The features are the same on both cards. Unless I'm reading it wrong, there are no technologically advancement on the card other than drivers which can be updated on 8800GT to do the same. Read this. There are noticeable difference in playing games unless your monitor is too small to even make a difference. Mine setting is default at 1920x1200 with everything turned on. Will eventually need a card for the future where I'll be able to do higher resolution settings without any major drop in performance. Are you saying 9600GT will be able to keep up with 8800GT or 8800GTS 512MB versions when moving up to higher resolutions? On almost every review it seems to be at least a 10% difference...

No, im on about it performing with the 8800GT at res of 1600x i wouldnt recommend a 9600GT or 8800GT to anyone gaming above that res.

if its a driver update then i have been scammed simple as that and ill be taking my 9600GT back if it arrives on Monday.........lol

If there are better features or diffrences between the 8800 series and the 9600 seris then it could be that Nvidia dont want to spill the beans just yet on any improvments until the 9800 series are released.
