No, you can't hack the memory from 256bit to 128bit or vice versa. It has either one or the other. A 9500Pro will never come near a 9700 for this reason. It will always be limited by it's 128bit ram. You can only overclock the 9500pro since it already has all 8 pipes enabled.
Now if you had a 9500 non pro, you might have been able to unlock 4 pipes to make it a pro. It would still have 128bit memory, though.
This is the reason that the 4 pipe 9800SE's with 256bit memory installed were sought after. If you could unlock the other 4 pipes, and do some overclocking, you potentially had a full 9800pro for a lot less money. You at least got a 9800 non pro.
