9700 Pro+Counter Strike+OpenGl PROB!!

I've had my 9700 Pro for about a month now everything is great played BF1942, WCIII, and other games. I decided to install counter-strike since people say they have problem with it I still gave it a shot.

Both d3d and OpenGL the game runs very smooth. Sometimes there are some distortion in d3d but I don' blame ATi because it seemed like counter-strike's suppot for d3d is bad anyways.

The problems comes with OpenGL. The setting is at highest 16AF and 6AA. The game runs at 100 fps and everything smooth. However, when I press ESC to go back to the CS menu the game will get stuck the screen turns black. Everytime this happens I have to restart the computer. This is making be run CS in d3d which sux.

This is a known bug with the Catalyst 3.2 drivers. It's expected to be fixed in 3.3. Until then, use an older version of the drivers.

Don't use escape key have to open console and put quit in. Only problem is you'll have to restart the game but it's better than having to restart the computer.

Any driver prior to 3.2 will fix your problem. Or you can wait another two months for the 3.3 drivers.

ya, i had to go back to 3.1 because i have a bad habit of accedently hitting my windows button.

the 3.3's are out in the form of dell drivers. I'm using em right now

Those aren't Cat 3.3s. Check this thread for more info.

besides the 3.1's do everything i need anyway so i don't really have any reason to mess with new drivers anyway.

i have the same problem with Day of Defeat (another Half Life Mod) it will just shrink or crash if i play it in Open GL mode, so i switched to Direct 3D for now and it works just fine

I think the command is "exit" rather than "quit" or maybe itz true since i Havent tried that b4 so why dont u type exit

exit is for unreal based games, quit is for quake games.

doh, spoke too soon, both quit and exit work for hl.

That's it for me. After 2 days of black screen, I decided to uninstall Cat 3.2 and I'll try to play CS with 3.1 instead. Hopefully OpenGL will work fine.

Same problem on 3.1. I get the message Initializing and downloading then it kicks me out and gets me back to my desktop. I tried both on D3D and OpenGL but nothing worked.

did you totaly uninstal your drivers before reinstalling?

I did uninstall Cat3.2 before downloading 3.1. In 3.1, Counter Strike don't even initialize and download. It just kicks me out of the game and to my desktop. I did a roll back and now back to my original driver Cat2.4.
